My 92 sedan has a D16Z6 but the V-TEC isn't plugged into the solenoid, I've been told that I need to get a V-TEC compatible harness and possibly an ECU? The original D15B7 probably blew up and they half way swapped this Z6 in just to make it run. My question: Has anyone found a place that has/makes harnesses? Because if I'm not mistaken the 92-95 USDM sedans never had a V-TEC engine in them. Thanks as always guys!!!

 

I believe there are vendors on here that sell the sub harness for vtec

your 92 should already have the wires from the ecu to shock tower

also you will need an obd1 p28 ecu

 

all you need are the pigtails.

 

I haven't looked to see what ECU is in it. I don't know if its the stock one from the DX or what, all I know is that there is nothing plugged into my solenoid and that theres nothing to plug into it. How will I know what ECU is in it?

You are converting to an OBD1 EX. The D16Z6, P28 ECU, and compatible harness were all stock in the EX versions. Probably easier to modify your harness than to try to find an EX one though.

So. egsleepercivic, no CEL means get an ECU, which would be a P28 like mk378 said? And what would I do with the ECU when I get it? I assume its not plug-n-play. (I am 17 and just getting into the game so I appreciate every tidbit you can give me). Thanks.

 

Check which ECU you have. It is probably a P06, which is the one that comes with the DX and does not support VTEC. The P28 plugs in the same way but it needs to have the wiring completed to the VTEC solenoid and switch.

What egsleepercivic said is that if you had a P28 with incomplete wiring, it would detect that and throw an error code turning the CEL on. So you probably don't have a P28. But your next step is to look at the ECU and see what it is.

 

Ahh got it. I have no CEL so that must mean I have a P06. So, get the harness add-on, get the P28(I assume I want S300 as well?) and unplug the P06 and replace it with the P28. I'll check what ECU it is when I get home from school. I'm in class at the moment haha. I appreciate the help!

 

S300 is nice, but not needed for a stock z6 or even on with bolt ons.

The Obd1 P28 is the ECU that is stock for the z6, if you have vtec wired correctly, the ecu is plug and play

 

P06 confirmed. So, connect up the harness then plug in the P28? That seems easy enough. Thank you very much you guys you have been a huge help
