Unless you've been living under a rock, you've noticed that there have been several 99-00 Civic Si sell recently on Bring a Trailer with some pretty strong numbers. Well after watching 4 sell on the site since July I finally saw the one I couldn't pass up.
To give you a quick backdrop, in March of 1999 I was fortunate enough (or spoiled depending on your perspective) to receive a brand new 99 Civic Si in EBP as my first car. I absolutely loved the car and babied from day one. 3 months later, after a late night the day before, I drove from KY to SC on only a few hours sleep. Sadly, I fell asleep with the car on cruise control and woke up in the grassy median. Being a young driver and not experienced in emergency situations, I lost control of the car and it was totaled after slamming against a guardrail in TN. As luck would have it, the insurance policy I had included free car replacement for new cars owned less than 6 months. For some reason (see above regarding spoild brat), my dad agreed to buy the same exact car with the insurance check so in August I was back in a new EBP Si with only delivery miles. Fast forward to 2006 and 75k miles later and it was time for a vehicle to pull a boat and my wife and I were starting to think about having a family. Reluctantly I sold my car for $10,000 and have pretty much missed it ever since. This is my old car:
Call me crazy, but I couldn't resist when this car popped up on BaT last week. I told myself 9000 would be my top and you can see that the final bid landed at $10,500. Anyway, the car is all original with no mods and only 49k miles! Only thing is needs is a new windshield (crack) and the mid-pipe is not factory for some unknown reason. I've been out of the Honda world for over 10 years and have had little contact with whats going on, so most of you may think this is the stupidest thing you've ever seen, and that's fine I can take the heat. However, If you care to follow along, I'll be picking the car up on Friday and thought it might be fun to document the pick up and the subsequient irresistible urge to modify the car. I'll probably need some help in that area sourcing the parts I need and so forth and I've already been reading on here and other places. So chime in and tell me what I should do with this beauty, keep it stock or some tasteful bolt ons? Here's the new car and the link to the auction:
That was a great story, and I'm happy for you that you were able to get it back. This is my baby and I am the original owner w/28K miles. I'm not into the rice scene so I like to keep it as stock looking as possible. Whatever you decide to do make sure you can reverse it back to stock at any time without ruining the value.
Thanks sivicman, very nice em1 you have there! And yes absolutely agree on being able to take it back to stock if needed. Looking forward to the 6 hr haul tomorrrow to go pick her up.
I am looking forward to progress pictures of this. I almost pulled the trigger on an ebp em1 when they first arrived when I was 18. I have a soft spot for these cars.
Congrats on the purchase! I have watched the past 3 Si auctions on that site and thought it was awesome that this one was so close. I live in Northwest Ohio and my Si originally came from the Cuyahoga Falls area. I am the second owner and looking back, I wonder why I never tried to buy one brand new?
As far as leave it stock or mod it out that is a very tough question to answer. Mine is turbo'd and as much as I like it with the extra power, there are times when I think I shouldn't have gone that far and should have kept it N/A. These cars are getting rare, especially well preserved examples, and keeping them that way is the best way to go IMO.
My advice is get OEM replacement parts for everything that is worn out, only do modifications that can be un-done, and keep any OEM part that you take off.
Oh they sure do! There is a reason they call this area of the country the rust belt. If you want to keep your car nice and rust free you have to store it over the winter months.
My 2000 EPB Si has been a daily driver since new... I am the second owner. The original owner pampered it and I am fortunate to have it in such pristine condition. I have been compiling parts for a N/A K-swap. I can't wait to have it back as my daily driver. Living in the South means it is rare that we get snow... and almost never salt the roads.
Congratulations on the purchase! As for where to source parts, I suppose it really depends on what you want to do. I can't recommend the guys over at Real Street Performance enough for performance parts though. If you're not sure what you need (or don't need) but you at least have an idea of your final goal you can call them and they'll walk you through everything.

Update! Sorry I haven't followed up on the purchase, but I got the car home and its a great little machine. Ended up throwing a new set of Nittos on it as the tire it had were making a load of road noise. I got OEM glass to replace the cracked windshield and hope to have that installed in the next week or so. After that, my focus will turn to suspension. I'm thinking of going the Progress Coilover route but am open to suggestions. Other wants down the road, are 5 lug conversion and 16" ITR wheels in gunmetal, lower position seats (maybe JDM Recaros), and I/H/E. All advice is appreciated. I also started an instagram page to share progress with the car if you care to follow along: em1_reboot

A few pics:
hey thanks for the update.. but you really spent around $1300 (discount)for the OEM glass? I should know, I just had my windshield replaced and was laughing so hard that Honda wanted $1700+ (Retail) for that glass. Even the dealership was laughing. Not laughing at you, but did you really pay that much?
for anyone else that doesn't believe me.. google the Honda part number for the windshield...73111-SOO-A10
Congrats on the purchase of a clean replacement em1 after all these years. They are great cars, and due to the unique model it is, modding it must be done with personal consideration.
i picked up my current em1 back in 2009, choosing carefully how to mod and personalize it, and retain value, heaven forbid it gets sold some day. As others have mentioned, keep it fairly stock looking in appearance. I did probably 15 decent mods, that improve the car overall
- JDM B18C-R engine swap
- Mugen exhaust
- Suspension Techniques springs w/Koni struts
- DC2 Integra seats
- DC2 oem double bend shifter
- ACR rear sway bar and brace
- SSR 15” forged wheels
All in all, I added horsepower and dropped weight a touch.

No way was I going to pay $1200 for a windshield. I got lucky and found a super clean used one at a junk yard not too far away. Hope to get it put in Saturday.

oh cool, good deal! Yeah I wasn't saying you should put cheap junk on the car, no way..
But you gotta just laugh, rolling on the floor when Honda thinks that glass is worth $1200-1700!
Honda you're nuts! Oh and one thing, make sure that the glass shop primers and paints any rust they find under the glass.. Last glass shop (before I had this car, Dad had it) didn't do that, now I have rust holes under there, probably going to be replacing sheet metal! ouch... just helping you keep your car in great shape!
