Well ive been recently getting problems with my cooling system as im overheating at night when i race 100mph+ My cooling system is new which consists of a Fal Fan, Pwr Radiator, B&M Oil cooler. Last night was fairly typical temperatures outside but when i got back by my home my guage was about 3 1/4 high on the hot side. Later inspection showed loss of water in the radiator, reservoir bottle has some water in it. I was boostin 9 psi on a stock bottom z6 and wasnt nearly pusin it as hard as i would on previous occasions.
Any ideas why im overheating?? headgasket was changed a couple months ago.

 

is coolant bubling in resevior if so check rad cap

or thermostat?

also maybe water pump

 

check if ur fan kicks in

i'd say to change your thermostat and when your cars on squeeze the upper radiator hose it should be rock hard...if not maybe your water pump is bad..Another thing is to wire your fan to be on all the time...so your sure that the fan works....

 

first thing to look for is the thermostat. remove it and boil it. if it does not open then it is bad. nexyheat the car up. pull over open the hood and check for leaks. if there r no smells or sounds present then u most likely dont have a leak. if thats not the problem, on to the coolant level. top it off go run the car as usuall. if the car starts to over heat during the run you may have cracked ring lands or your head gasket may have gone. oh ya on last thing heater cores can go bad and do leak as well this may be another thing to check on. good luck.

Hmmm today i chked my radiator , the reservoir bottle was normal then i opened the radiator and ended up filling it with water, it suked 1 1/2 reservoir bottles of water. No leaks anywhere , no water in oil, any ideas????

 

turn the car on and watch it for 20 minuets
if it starts to overheat its one of your coolant temp sensors and the fan isnt turning on.
i dont think your fan is working.

 

fan works fine its brand new, doesnt overheat unless high speed racing, suked water though

 

check the timing i had a problem like that before and it was the timing

 

Would this be the case if the temp starts to rise when the car is idling sometimes, but not always? Last night at work my gauge started to go up to 75-90% of the way to the top when it would sit and idle for a minute or two, and then go back to the normal level when I drove for a couple minutes. Sometimes it would stay at the normal level though, if sitting idling for a few minutes???? Last night when I got home, I left the engine idle while sitting in my heated garage... and it didn't go up past halfway. It was like 15 degrees outside, if that helps anything. I am going to eat breakfast and then go out and take a look, but this is just what I observed last night before I went home for fear of warping something.
