ZC + turbo
does anyone have a zc turbo? or know how well they handle the turbos. i'd imagine they would be fairly good, since the comp. isnt that high on them...but anyone elses opinions?
they handle fairly good. Stock internals will hold up to 220hp as i hear from many ppl , because its a d series motor and has d series internals. 8psi daily should be fine, 10psi if u wanna act tuff! i have the main pieces for a zc turbo setup in trying to sell if your interested, t3 turbo, rx7 intercooler, bov welded onto a pipe, saab downpipe that would have to b cut and rewelded, tell me if interested..
I had a question on this subject, probably better for forced induction forum but I'm sure they will just say to search. What is a good loud blow off valve to use for low boost conditions. I'm planning on going 7 or 8 PSI and I know that most of the high aftermarket BOVs are used on 12+ PSI conditions.
I have a turbo on my ZC in my 91 hatch. It really pulls strong. I've never been able to get a good 1/4 mile run in because my ghetto intercooler kept leaking. It ran 14.2 at 100mph with 2.3 60ft times on a slightly uphill track. Honestly, there is no doubt in my mind that the car is good for very high 13s if I could just get my **** together and get a good run. This was with somewhere around 8psi although it would slowly bleed off as the intercooler leaked it away.
My kit is just a 92-95 Greddy kit, all homemade charge pipes, a 12:1 FMU, and a Walbro 255 pump. I have somehow been able to pull off stock injectors running about 9.5lbs daily with a 10lb spike with that cheapo setup (I'll be upgrading this winter to other fuel management).
As for the Blow Off Valve. I wouldn't recommend getting a loud one just because it is loud. It makes you feel like a clown ever time it blows off really loud.... especially when you're getting beat by a camaro or something and you car sounds like it should be running 10s but it isn't. Keep it low key. I have an HKS SS because it was free, and it is far too loud. That's just my opinion, but once you go Turbo, and your car is reasonably decently quick for an every day street car... you'll lose the desireto show off. I can't really explain it, but as much as I never thought I would say it... unless you're running a supra or rx7 or something, a loud BOV just sounds 'ricey'.

There's a local guy here I recently talked to, he was running a ZC with turbo, with boost set at 8.5 on 11" slicks in his CRX he ran a 12.3 at Rockingham and at the same time killed his engine. Borrowed a stock manifold and limped it back home. He said 6psi is about the highest you would wanna boost a stock ZC. He has 2 ZC engines right now each with the same problem (#2 piston fried) wanting $250 for the 2 of them (enough to build one complete engine with lots of leftover parts). I'll wait till I have problems with my ZC to get back with him.
I also run a Turbo'd ZC, stock internals Greddy D series kit, 12:1 FMU, stock injectors and stock fuel pump, 7 psi and runs nice and rich, never leans out pulls nice also, I have had it for about 1 year not one problem other than fried my dizzy, but that was the original dizzy that it came with, lots of salt deposits. Ohh and also running the 89 teg ecu, and also have the ZC ecu.
IMO I like the Greddy Type S blow off, nice and quiet plus I have it set as soft but it sounds loud in the car.

If I ever decide to go turbo its going to be no blow off valve sound for me. Why not. Well I plan on being really badd *** and recirculate the blow off?
Im currently researching how it works now and what setup it works best with.
What blow off sounds loud...blah.

Oh yeah by teh by. I know of an 11 second turbo ZC in an EF hatch. I forget teh guys name and he hardly ever signs online anymore but I used to talk to him for quite a bit when he did. Had to absolutly strip it and he went with a few upbrades to handle it.
