I just bought a 1996 Honda Civic EX Coupe with a bad motor. I have a 1995 Civic EX Coupe motor from a car my son wrecked. Can I put the 95 motor into the 96? Sorry, I'm new to Hondas and not sure of the changes between 5th and 6th gen Civics.

 

Replacing the D16Y8 with the D16Z6.

Replacing an OBD2 motor with an OBD1 motor.

Injectors are different, distributor is different, I belive the IACV is different. etc.

Also, D16Z6 is 16* BTDC for ignition timing while the D16Y8 is 12* BTDC if I recall.

It can be done, but you have a fair amount of work ahead of you and many little things to overcome or work around.

Also ECU for the D16Y8 I believe expects a knock sensor and the crank fluctuation sensor, neither are present on the D16Z6.

I'm sure I'm missing a thing or two in the list.

 

do you have emissions inspections ?

if not you could just convert to obd1 to run the z6 in the 96

think you would just need a obd2a to obd1 for the ecu

then swap over the obd2 injectors, and alt to the z6

a jumper for the z6 distributor

use the 96 harness

doesn't seem too bad, but i haven't done that particular swap so i might be forgetting\missing something
