Hello, I bought some progress cs2 coilovers 350/350 for my 98 civic. Now, these coilovers don't come with the top hats and will need to reuse the stock ones.. What is the procedure to remove the top hats from my stock ones and mount them on the cs2. Also any tips on overall installation tips will be GREATLY appreciated.

I searched the forums a ton yesterday and just couldn't find a top hat removal and or install guide.

 

You're technically supposed to use a spring compressor to hold the spring back while you pull the OEM tophat off of the OEM strut.

When I last disassembled the OEM strut assembly though, I didn't have a spring compressor available and just made sure to angle the strut away from me and wrap my hand with a rag while wrenching just to make sure I didn't smack myself. Make sure you're not holding the spring or anything either. The top hat and hardware will fly off as soon as the nut is free, so make sure you're somewhere you can pick up/find all the pieces too.

Basically just pull the full strut assembly out, then once it's out there's just those two bolts on the top hats you need to undo to free it from the strut. I'm pretty sure you can rent a spring compressor from Oreilly/Autozone as well, if you want to do it properly.

 

I am pretty sure that Advance Auto/Autozone has a free loan (or rental) tool for springs.
