Hey everyone I just traded a bmw last night for a 99 civic....owner said it needed a cat, question is, how many does this car have?

 

Only 1.

 

Oh man for real? Damn that makes my day.....I'm out there r now trying to figure out how to raise it back up, some kid put adjustable height shocks? Struts? On it on the lowest setting so there's no suspension. .....why do people do that

Welcome to the Honda world everything is much easier to get to and much cheaper to fix. Any pics of the civic?

 

 

There were two types of exhaust systems stock. The DX and LX have a one piece manifold-cat assembly on the front of the engine. These are infamous for cracking. The EX has a more conventional system with the cat underneath the car just behind the engine compartment. If you have aftermarket header instead of the stock iron manifold, it will link up to an EX-style cat. Many DX and LX owners do some sort of conversion to the EX system.

There may be a bulge in the center pipe underneath the back seat just before it turns toward the side of the car. This is a resonator, not a cat. Many aftermarket pipes will not have it at all.

 

Yea, it looks like a aftermarket header deffinetly not like the cat that should be there....I really wouldn't care but it's gotta pass smog here to register it.....although I just looked, it is a ex model....?

 

Look under the car right after the 4 pipes of the header join together, that's where the cat should be. EX model had sunroof (check) and D16Y8 VTEC engine.

 

So I be ordering stuff from rockauto.com ( excellent prices) I think I got it all figured out , thanks for help.....I should write that engine number down then just match it up w rock auto s cat selection s no?7
