Default Idea to increase spool for big turbos

I was thinking in this idea to increase turbo spool for big turbos. The main idea is to insert two stainles steel bars to reduce the size of the inlet to increase the incoming air speed. What you think?

That your about 10 years or so behind. The "quick spool valve that was controlled by an independant actuator to block one part of the exhaust inlet up to a certain amount of boost pressure in which it would open both portions of the inlet.

The Supra guys had been doing this for years. Tony the Tiger had used this extensively and documented its use as well as a few others.

you can literally Google "Quick Spool Valve" and tons of results pop up..

Including this

https://www.suprastore.com/spquspva.html

Sorry.. Didn't mean to bust your idea bubble

Yeah I already read that article some time ago, but the main idea is to make this for almost free (around $5 for the cast bar), and a quick and easy way to increase spool (already didn´t know if it will work) instead of buy a BEP housing ($350) or a quick spool valve ($550). But as i mentioned, thats only an idea i have.

I think you should buy a better suited housing OR a quick spool valve if you insist on keeping an oversized turbine housing (or get another turbo completely) . Sticking 2 chunks of metal into the turbine inlet to permanently restrict flow at that one particular spot isn't a great idea.

A quick spool valve gives you quicker spool while retaining top end. Your idea will give you quicker spool but choke out up top.

I have a stock D16 turbo with 7300rpm limit, so i don´t need great top end, only need boost from 4k to 7k, that is the reason i plan to make this to make a holset H1C useable for my setup.

T25's are all over the place dirt cheap. Good luck with your project and post results.

Then get the correct housing for that turbo, or get a unit better suited for your purpose. The materials used to make turbine housings are of a nickel iron and not steel. Your $5 idea could cost you your entire engine. Not a good idea at all, unfortunately.

I say go for it, since you clearly aren't going to be convinced of arguably better solutions. Who knows, may work well enough for what I'm assuming is going to be around 250-350 hp. You may want to try out a restrictor on the compressor intake as well, iirc wantboost claimed it makes a sizeable differences in spool. Let us know the results as well, if you feel obliged, and good luck

Ok, Im going to check the cost to machine a garrett .63 housing too.

Even more expensive than your Holset housing. Most places won't do that due to the difference between the Holset and Garrett turbine wheel profiles.

Just get a different turbo. Putting a .70 a/r housing on that holset still wouldn't make it a "great fit" for the goal you described...especially comparing it to a small straight T3. A T3 Super 60 would be a great fit. (compare selling that Holset $, plus the cost of a usable turbine housing money that would be spent, and you would nearly have the price of a NIB turbo that would actually work well for what you described and would drop right in)

I made 410whp on a garrett 60 trim t3 with 0.63 a/r housing and a drop in billet wheel. just get a used 60 trim t3, get it rebuilt or rebuild it yourself, and use that. it'll accomplish everything you want and then some, and spools super fast too, perfectly in that rpm range you're looking for

That is different from a T3 Super60.. Completely different from a T3/To4E 57mm
