Default 97 crv rear bushings

Hi - we have a 97 CRV with 173,000 miles. 2 years ago the lower control arms and the trailing arm bushings were replaced. Now I have a terrible rattle\clunk in the left rear. If the trailing arm bushings have been replaced as well as the lower control arms, would it stand to reason the issue is with the upper control arm bushings? The rattle happens when we hit some bumps but not others, but it is fairly consistent. It almost sounds like someone left a tire iron bouncing around in the left rear fender or something. I've removed everything from the back - jack, tools, spare, table, etc. to make sure it was nothing loose in the cargo compartment which it is not. Took it to Midas and they said it needed new upper and lower bushings, but that didn't make sense since the lower control arms were replaced in November 2015. I'm thinking about just replacing the upper control arms.
