d16y8 swap runs terrible
hey guys i just want some opinion before i put my old motor back in tommrw so i can have wheels, i swapped a y8 into my 98. i converted to obd1 using a po6 and the engine is bouncing everywhere when i rev it backfires then i hop out the car and a ridiculous amount of exhaust is coming out the back smelling like i poured gas all over my face... i dont know what the issue is i rewired the iac and repined the harness and added the knock sensor but the car sounds like shat and if its something small id ike to fix it before i put the y7 back in, i used the same harness.
Compression? Timing? Non-stock fuel injectors or bad fuel injector?
Put your OBDII ECU back in, everything should work except the IACV and the VTEC, you can work around the first one by opening up the air screw. That should be able to drive the car enough to determine if the engine is good. If it still has the way too much gas effect, swap back to your original fuel injectors and fuel pressure regulator in.

Sounds like you're running uber-rich.
Like mentioned, p06 isn't the right ECU for that engine. P06 belongs to an engine with a different displacement and compression...

Thanks guy I'll try all that. I'm using the po6 cause when doing research a lot of things are unclear and different opinions but I'll try my old ecu and if it runs I'll drive it until I can get a p28 thanks
