Default d16y7 & y8 question

I have the d16y7 non vtec in my car right now, if i were to change over to the d16y8 vtec would i have to change the ecu to a y8 or are the ecu's the same, i have the harness with the y8 just not the ecu. Wondering if there the same or not?

ECU required. I think there is a couple of other details possibly too. Not sure if one has an EGR and the other doesn't etc. Also think one has 3 wire IACV while the other has a 2 wire?

Not really sure what all the differences are but there is a few I think.

ok soo i got my old motor out and we are about to put the new one(d17a2) in and my friend thinks that we can use the d16y7 harnest with the d17a2 ecu if we just splice all the wires in the middle plug or the ecu becuase they both have 32 connectors in that part of the ecu.. will this be possible? ik we will have to add some wires to the y7 harness to make satify all the extra components on the a2 motor, such as the vtec!! any thoughts would help we arent 100 percent on this working yet

I'm confused you said Y8 now you're saying D17A2 which is a completely different animal

OP needs to go researching into the hybrid section methinks.

Well seeing how he was just busted with his d17a2, I am going with:

"FIVE POST CONNIVE"
