Default Stripped Spark Plug Hole Threads(3rd from left)

Alright guys so a couple months ago I changed my spark plugs. Everything was fine for a few weeks when the spark plug shot out upon firing up the engine. I did research and bought a rethreader with some heli coils. My problem is the the socket I need for the rethreader doesn't fit down in the spark plug well. I have been without a car for two months and desperately need to get this fixed. How can I rethread this hole so my heli coil fits. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Couldnt you just remove the head and do it from the bottom?

I thought about that but was told it was complicated. In truth I have just started teaching myself to work on cars . Never had anyone to teach me. How long mg would something like that take?

Purchase a thread tapper extension Find the correct drive for the top of the thread tapper (example: 1/4". 3/8" or metric equivalent drive). Can purchase a ratcheting style too as shown in link: https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1vHk9K...ension-rod.jpg

Another way (at your own risk) is using a socket extender as shown in this pic: http://nebula.wsimg.com/1b55e1dbf256...&alloworigin=1 However, you don't want any wiggle room between the top of the thread tapper and where it connects into the extension when cutting the threads into the cylinder head.

If you do tap it out successfully..use a vacuum cleaner and rig up tubing to the vacuum hose so you can suck out all the metal shavings on the pistons and cylinder walls before you start the engine.

If removing a cylinder is beyond your skills, DO NOT attempt to do so. Pay someone knowledgeable to do the work.

Watch Video. Don't slop on the RTV like he did though...thin layer that you spread evenly on threads with your finger::

Another idea for extension:

It's not that it's "beyond my abilities" it's just I haven't done it before. Paying someone isn't an option. I'm a very quick learner who is mechanically inclined. All it will take is the proper tutorials and guidance. I appreciate all the help you guys have provided so far. I guess my only question is can I remove the cylinder without taking aprat the entire head? Also what tools will be required to do so.

The kit he shows in this video is decent, i can personally vouch for it I've used it at the shop a couple times. Though put some damn oil on the thing before you go rethreading stuff... break that tool off in the head, and you'll be in for a REAL fun time.

If you use patience, common sense and a cheap $2 tire pressure gauge to measure depth ..it's not that hard of a repair. As I mentioned before...rig up tubing to a vacuum cleaner that can fit inside the spark plug holes and suction out metal shavings from cylinders before starting the engine. Makes no sense to go through the time and expense of removing the head to do this repair.

This one is gives the best detail..read his replies on youtube. Wait 24 hours to allow hi-temp RTV to cure before starting engine. After thread repair is finished (24 hours) remove the plugs and use a small amount of anti-sieze paste evenly and thinly coated on the spark plug threads for easier removal. If you use a torque wrench to spec tighten the spark plugs just back off 3 psi due to the paste. Without a torque wrench: snug the plugs down and use 1/4 turn past. I managed to find a tap online that is made for smaller cylinders. Thanks for all the help guys. All of your advice has helped a ton.
