leak in pass floor when rains - 92 Del Sol Si
I have been trying to figure out why sometimes ( more than not) my pass floor board gets a lot of water in it when it rains hard. I can't seem to find where it is coming from but if I base it on where the water sits on the floor mat it looks to be coming from behind the glove box. I was thinking possible windshield but wanted to ask if this is a common problem
thanks for that, however if it was that simple to find I wouldn't have asked. I don't seem to be able to get it to leak with a water hose not to mention I can't seem to find where it's coming from when it is leaking
it has to be somewhere related to the windshield area as it leaks from under the dash in the middle of the glove box area
I guess I was just hoping this was common, like the trunk leaks from the drains or taillights
Looks like I'll just have to pull all the trim and look at it from the outside
funny thing is sometimes it can pour for days and it won't leak a drop, then the next rain it will leak a good bit

Its not simple tbh, thats why telling you 'yes its a common area' and what you'll do next probably won't remediate the problem. You think windshield, hear its a common problem in the area, go caulk the **** out of your windshield and still have leaks means you'll be back. Get it?
All you need is a water hose and another set of eyes, flash light or a camera that can fit in tight spots and you'll be able to spot the leak BETTER.
DIAGNOSE/INVESTIGATE.
But if you rather take the low route than YES, IT IS A COMMON AREA. So have at it.

OK maybe I should have asked it differently
I'm wasn't asking if the windshield leaking is a common problem, I'm asking is it a common or well known problem that water leaks on the pass side floor in hard rains
it's like asking about leaks in the trunk, right away the answers are check that your drains for the rear aren't clogged or check around the taillights as these are common issues
I know how to investigate and I have been trying to find it but as of yet can't see where it's coming from and so far can't make it leak with a water hose.
I quess next I'll take a pressure washer to it and just keep looking till I find it
Thanks

good point, I guess I missed that
it's a 92 Del Sol SI
I think I'm just going to take a pressure washer after it until I get it to leak then just keep looking till I find it

So yeah, the OP was asking is there any common leak issues regarding his car that would explain his leak and if it just happened to be the windshield, but failed to provide what car.
Your cynicism is not helpful here. Clarifying questions help and help more people in the long run.
I don't have experience with the Sol's so wasn't sure if that would be a good suggested area to investigate.
Thanks for sharing this.
the main reason this one is being so hard to find is I know the water has to be following or flowing down something because of where it is dripping from, it's not near anything that would let water in
and I'm not going to just caulk the **** out of my windshield, hahaha I liked that one
Lets be fair here Tony. The 92-95 civic has the common issue of the seam seal leaking on the sides between the door and fenders. The Del Sol has the common targa top leak.

But hey, we can sit here all day and wait for more responses to come rolling in.
I recommendation is the proper method, see my 1st post. As you can see he has yet to even do any diagnosing. Its common for seam seals on older model cars to crack overtime. I know, I just finish dealing with one.

I didn't have a problem with your concept as to how to find a leak in general, you are correct spray it with water and look look look until you find it
however I made it clear that I could not get it to leak just using a water hose, I have tried quite a few times with no luck
also I mentioned that when it does leak I haven't as of yet been able to trace down where it was coming from
this would mean I have been looking for it and trying to duplicate the issue, hence following diagnostic procedures
now since I don't drive this car very often as it's my wife's car it only gets addressed when it happens and she reminds me I need to find the leak
I haven't torn it apart, but before I just start tearing panels out or whatever, I thought I would just come here and ask a simple question
I will take all the responses and Thank those that took the time to offer them and then apply them to my situation if I feel they are helpful
I am a 35 year diesel tech so I am not some flunky that doesn't know how to work on vehicles, but even I can admit when something stumps me and
I have no problem asking for either advise or listening to what others may have found with a simular problem
for you to comment that I haven't even tried to properly diagnose this leak is just plain ridiculous assumption on your part
so yes I will read any comments related to my question and then consider their validity and use that to help me solve the issue
looks like I can put this one to bed. we just had 3 days of rain and a couple of the storms were major, not one drip on the passenger side. only thing I have done different since the last time it leaked was I've had the targa top off a couple times when I drove it. I keep the seals treated about every 3 months to try to keep them in good shape
maybe it needed to have the top off to let the seals stretch out some from being closed all winter.
so looks like dsol may have hit the nail on the head on this one

You said it's gone, but I guess the other possibility is that the drain hose from the evaporator could be leaking into the cab. Normally the evaporator pools and flows out that hose to under the car. So if you had the a/c off and it wasn't leaking because of that, could still be that hose.

it has rained hard a few more times and still not a drip so I feel pretty good that it was the Targa top all along
