Hey all,
After my 2001 accord sedan 4cylinder sat through the winter as I slowly replaced it's transmission it has developed a noise in the steering pump.
It started as a whine while driving, no loss of steering pressure though. I drained the fluid as it may have never been changed, and topped it off, and bled the system by locking the wheels and topping off fluids. After it filled and the bubbles settled out it is still making noise, as if there is air in the system.
Just wondering what else I might try? The pump is slightly wet, i've read the top feeder line o-ring goes bad. The pump isn't loosing fluid, but it's a little dirtier than everything around it. Anything else to try before I replace it?
Thanks!

Does the power steering system still operate properly? How bad is the noise? Sometimes a pump may be worn in such a way that it causes some noise, but it still operates just fine (thousands of ford's on the road have screamers for pumps, but a fully functioning power steering system).
If the pump still provides adequate pressure and volume for the system to operate properly, and if the noise level is bearable, just drive that thing!

It seems to have bled itself out after driving a little. Now it's back to it's usual monotonous drone/whine and is driving fine. I guess your right, if it's doing it's job I will leave it be for now.
