Default Obd0 mini-me timing problems

Got a obd0 civic hatch si, running pm6 chipped with stock pm6 map. Running a d15b7 block and a d16y8 head. Milled 0.040. Compression numbers are 275 each cylinder. Now I set mechanical timing with 88-95 cam gear as instructed. All tdc runs great, afrs great, dizzy set eye balled at the middle since I just started. Problem is that although the car runs great when I put the timing light on it and it shows the cursor around the TDC for the crank! And the three lone marks are way ahead.. is this normal when doing this kind of setup? Am I not able to ever use the stock ignition timing marks again? And yes I got a adj cam gear and no go. I have to advance cam 16 degrees to get the light to show up by the three lines, and it detonates like crazy at that point. At a loss here any questions or ideas will be great thanks guys.

if you have a digital timing light where you input the timing you want (say 16 degrees) and then check the timing it should light up on the TDC, mark off to the right of the 3 timing marks - if you set the timing light at 0 degrees, it should flash on the 3 timing marks

I just have one those cheap harbor freight ones that's not adjustable... is it normal for it to show there? On the lone mark? Also the I used the gun when I had the other head stock and it showed the three marks with the same gun. Was that head possibly way too advanced? The whole time?
