2000 accord 6cyl shutting off
My 2000 Honda Accord sometimes has trouble starting and when it does start, it will run for a while and then loose all power and a couple of seconds later all of the dash lights come on just like when you first turn the key over.
I have the same car, it would die while I was driving, it was the fuel pump, I changed out the electric motor and thats what it was. Do you have any check engine codes? What you describe could be several things but i would check fuel pressure first. Actually a fuel pump on ebay os $10 so changing it would be good
Thanks, I just ordered a new pump, strainer and gasket for around $30.00 and I will try that now. Also heard that the main relay could bad. Sometimes it won't start at all and sometimes it will run for a little distance. The last 2 times it made it around 65 miles both trips.
if it's the main relay what you're supposed to do is remove it (it under the steering wheel I think very easy to access) then check for tiny hairline cracks arounf the solder joints. if you see it remelt the solder (reflow) to fix each joint. if that doesnt work I'd buy a used one off ebay, should be a ton left on there. just look at the exact part number on your main relay, get the exact part number used. if you want you can go to majestic or any honda site and look up the part number that way too, but its better if you check your original part number. I'd reflow the solder on the used part before installing. $30 is pretty expensive for a fuel pump, hopefully you didn't get a walbro, lots of knock off walbros (fakes) on ebay and amazon. the best ones incidentally are the cheap $10 ones that look like it shiny yellow metal. good luck, hope you get it fixed and let me know

If you are losing power to the dash, check your ignition switch.
Remove all charms/excess keys/rings/junk from your key ring. Use only the key.
Jiggle the key around with the key in the II(ON) position, if the dash lights blink or while running the engine cuts out, it most likely is the ignition switch.

Now I have replaced the main relay, fuel filter, fuel pump and the crankshaft sensor. Most of the time the car will not start, but when it does, it will smoke a little but only at first when it does start. Then it will stay started for 2 mins to 30 mins and then has trouble starting again and sometimes will not get it started. I have tried turning the key with it in drive and watching all the dash lights to check and see if it could be the ignition switch but all the dash lights stay on but I still have not checked it with a multimeter yet. Tried to get it started yesterday but no luck. Any ideas?
Buy a spark tester and the next time it dies and doesn't start check for spark. Try to do it real fast. It's likely replacing the distributor will fix it. Sounds like the icm is bad and when it heats up it cuts out.
When the car does start, it sounds great with no misses at all and just shuts off just like the key is turning it off but all the dash lights come on right away.
The car has the ignition coils and no distributor, I tried replacing the ignition coils one at a time from another motor but no change, still would not start. It usually will not start but sometimes it does and sounds great and idles good for a little while and then just shuts off and will not start again. Thought about changing the ignition switch but not sure if that will help? Thanks
