Flashing D4 light
I'm sure I'm posting this in the right place. I have a '92 Honda accord ex automatic with a flashing D4 light. I can only use 2nd and 3rd gear to drive. Out side of that the car starts and runs just fine. I have had mixed answers reading online forums, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on my issue
To retrieve the code.
Look for the two wire blue connector located behind the passenger side kick panel. It may just be floating in space, it doesn't have a 'home'.
Jumper it with a wire.
Turn ignition to II(ON)
Watch the CEL/D4/other warning lamps for blinking. Long blinks are tens, short blinks are ones.
Record the codes and report back here for further diagnostics.

There is no code 17 for D4/TCU.
Code 17 for CEL/ECU is for the VSS.
Verify all connections are clean and tight.
Remove backup/memory fuse from underhood fusebox to clear code ~10seconds should do.
Start car, place into 2nd gear.
Acclerate up to 3500rpm, then decelerate to 1500rpm with throttle closed.
Does the CEL come back on?
NO.
Intermittent failure, possibly damaged wiring, poor connection, or dirty VSS.
YES.
Block rear wheels and set parking brake. Raise front wheels and place on jackstands.
Backprobe ECU with voltmeter between A26 and B10.
Turn Ignition to II(ON).
Slowly rotate front left wheel and obsereve voltage change.
Does voltage pulse between 0 and 5V?
NO.
-Repair open or short in ORN wire between ECU(B10) and VSS.
-Faulty Speed Sensor(may be dirty, they can be disassembled and cleaned)
-Substitute a known good ECU and recheck. If problem goes away, replace ECU.
YES.
