Default Max compression in turbo/high hp build?

Anyone try 12:1+ in their turbo build?

11:1 right now, and 900+hp. Plugs look good, logs look good, car feels potent...

Doing a back up motor, head, and cam package to swap in once my current motor blows, all with better components... Considering going 12 - 12.5:1 since it seems I still have a decent safety window on my 11:1.
Just curious if anyone has opted to try and go with something out of the normal 9-11:1 range, and if so did you pick up any notable power? Any regrets?

1050whp and 720lbs on 9:1. I have an aluminum rod block I will be doing at 10:1.

are you running a b or k? If you have the airflow you will make power. I know a lot of the sfwd b series guys are running over 12.5. I've heard 15 in one car but I just can't see that on vp gas. But more compression is the only way to make any more power on the 72mm.

I'd love to run around 12 but it's a street car and q16 isn't cheap.

I would like to know what turbo car over 1000whp is on 15:1 compression?

I am currently running a 10:1 motor, but it seems like I remember Chris Miller running something around 12:1 years ago. Most of those guys don't post here anymore, so it's just speculation anymore.

I'm in a dodge srt-4, just lounge around on HT more than I do on the srt forums. lol

I was told from a Tx tuner that T1's car was 14:1 at one point, but even if that were true, I'm just a garage built weekend racer, and cant afford to even attempt riding that thin line so closely.

On 11:1, I feel like I have a bit of leeway/window with compression to play with. I assume a bunch of the top sfwd guys are in that 12.x range that you mentioned, so just curious if any with experience had any input.

@bauergold: I'm running sealed ethanol.

Most people that are super competitive are not willing to really tell you what they have.

Yeah of course not, I wouldn't even ask.

Thats just what is assumed by other engine builders and tuners with 1100-1200whp cars I talk to.

Most of the cars out there at that power level are not 14+:1 compression, that's for damn sure.

The right turbo is a much more important choice than compression. None of my motors are anywhere near 14:1 or even near 13:1 for that matter. You'd be surprised to see how simple they really are.

I will say this, I am pretty close to the 1100whp on a 6870 and am currently at 9:1 on steel rods. My block was done with all off the shelf parts from Real Street Performance. No special piston or coatings, no custom rods, nothing.

Now the next block will be a bit more custom.

hey I read in another thread that you used to have the Liberty faceplated gearset. Would you recommend them for a 750whp 2500lb car? Not sure if they are worth it or if I should just save up for a dogbox. It's still something that is driven on the street. Don't really want to turn it into a race only car because of the weight. Just don't feel like dropping a grand and having them blow part too. Any other drivetrain mods you consider must have? And opinion on the trans brace/mid plate?

750 is where I started breaking the liberty gears. For that power if you are looking for reliablility I would save for a dog box.

Awesome, your car's going to make great power on ethanol.
