Default Gsr trans will go into gear while running, but won't move

Ok, so I have a 94 civic coupe with a b18b1 with a gsr trans. Was going down the interstate earlier today when a newer si pulled up beside me, and he just took off, so I went off after him, but I never left 5th gear, just a soft pull to catch back up to him. I ended up getting up to about 115 before I let out of it, and as the car was showing down it got to about 90 and slipped out of gear and went back in, feel down to 80, slipped back out, and back in, then I let it fall to 60 mph, and tried to put it in 4th, and had no gears. Got pulled over to the side of the road, and I still have a clutch pedal, but I can move it into every gear without having to push the clutch, and it doesn't move.

I'm going to go with a broken or popped out axle.

Seconded, unless the car has an lsd. Same thing happened to my Civic. Make sure the axles are both snapped in all the way. With the way an open diff functions, all the power will go to the side that isn't driving the axle=car won't move.

Broken or popped out axle would explain the symptom of placing the shifter into any gear and the car doesn't move, but does it explain the shifter popping out (and back in and out again) of gear as the car coasted to a stop ??? How about a damaged or broken shift change mechanism ???

Maybe if the axle was on the brink, popping in and back out, it would do something like that, the transmission would be experience a very quick load/no load switch situation, I know Honda transmissions pop out under hard braking more often. That's weird though.

It could be a cracked shift change holder but a broken axle is more common and easier to check.

A car with a helical LSD will behave the same way as an open diff when an axle breaks or pops out. Clutch type will continue to power the car.
