05 Civic Ex Unexplained Oil Leak!?!
This past Thursday my dad tells me that I might have an oil leak keep in mind I had my oil change + filter done just last week (5w-20) and tells me I should tighten the bolt just in case.
I lift it up on jacks and make sure it's really on there and the filter leaking a little so I remove it and see the band a little offset so I take it back to AutoZone and get a new one on the house.
No good it's still leaking oil (only on the driver side). I then take it to a trusted mechanic to get it looked at
Says it's the oil pressure sensor, get the part for $12.99( lifetime warranty) swap out the old one. The next day I notice it has started leaking oil on the passenger side.... take it back to the mechanic and looking at my engine for an hour!!! He finds no leaks.... it's has if nothing is wrong ....he suspects the vtec solenoid gasket but wants to make sure it's that before he starts going to town on it and advises since it at 220k I should buy "Lucas oil leak stopper" bottle and keep him updated.
I driving back home I can smell the oil hitting the muffler I pop the hood and I see oil up on the engine and I can't trace it back to the source( left side of engine)
The family mechanic can't come out the next day so I call another trusted mechanic and he checks it for about another hour.....He finds no leaks as well, checks the little cap on the side of the engine and reassures it's on there with hondabond no leaks there, at this point I have both VTEC solenoid gaskets (little rubber bands) and he advised he really wants to figure out the problem before I pay out $60 for him to replace the gaskets and still have the oil leak, he refused any payment!!, after looking at it for an hour and driving all the way here!! Anyone has this kind of problem before????

Unfortunately, that is a really hard one to pinpoint with the information given. I would be sure to check that the old oil filter seal (o ring) is not stuck on where the new one screws on. That happened to me in the past and oil leaked everywhere. Also, if you get a chance I would go under the engine with some degreaser and a rag and wipe it down as thoroughly as you can, afterwards let your engine run and see if you can pinpoint where its coming from. Although its a dirty job, it can make it easier to find the source of the leak.
