As said in the title my cars srs light is on I took it to get diagnosed at the factory the code read a 1-4 drivers side air bag open short. My horn is also not working the two of these in conjunction have lead mechanic to believe that the srs light could be reset if the cable real is replaced. To do this at the factory I was quoted 688 dollars. After paying the 118 dollar diagnostic I have decided to check with a trusted mechanic who says he can fix the cable reel at likely a much lower cost, and I have decided to try to reset the system by myself using diy reset methods which have successfully completed in the past to get light off. My concern is whether the cable reel repair will definitely fix the 1-4 code the diagnostic read. Furthermore am I better just sucking it up and doing at the factory, or can this job be done by my mechanic and the light reset by me? What should I do!

 

The mechanic should be able to detect an open circuit in the cable reel. They can be had at a pick-and-pull very cheap.

 

bought one off ebay and tore everything apart only to find the
lower connector wasn't fully plugged in.
airbags got ripped off back in 95 so
another $20 lesson learned.
