Is it possible to replace the front outer passenger side cv axle boot on a EM1 without having to replace the whole cv axle itself? Cuz the boot on mine is blown and it needed to be replaced.

 

Yes. It's a messy process if you've never done it before, but it's not hard.

The caveats:

- If you have an aftermarket axle in there already, a decent boot kit costs almost as much as a replacement axle and takes longer than just swapping in another aftermarket axle.
- You need to have a few special tools, or you're not getting it done.
- If you don't have a good bench vise and the proper hammer, you won't be able to knock the outer joint off the axle and will need to do both boots (which then requires another special tool to remove the snap ring to slide the tripod off)

IF you have good oem axles OR some nicer (non-parts store) aftermarket axles in there AND you have the tools AND you have a little extra time AND you are willing to buy a good boot kit from the dealer, it's totally worth it in my opinion. If you are missing any of the items from that last sentence, just throw a replacement axle at it and be done.

Also, don't use a split boot. They are garbage.

 

theres really no point. the joint is likely trashed if the boot is ripped and threw all its grease out and let other **** in. you cant replace the joint without doing more work than replacing the whole axle. the only alternative is a split boot but thats really not gonna last, and see the point on the joint already being trashed.

Oh **** it! Imma just replace the whole cv axle. But the thing is i just don't have the confident to remove the axle itself from the transmission. I tried doing something like that the last time when i was messing around with it but i just couldn't do it by just pulling on it. Perhaps there's another way of doing it.
