Quick question that I have just out of curiosity.

Based on how all of the K turbo kits I've seen, it looks like the manifold, turbo, and downpipe all seem to be choked up against the firewall right next to the brake master cylinder/lines, vacuum lines, and kinda even the clutch reservoir. I'm sure there's still plenty of room to actually install the kits, but I'm also sure that creates a very nice heat pocket at the back of the engine bay.

Is this a known problem/concern with turbo K cars? What do people do for heat shielding/relocation? On one of the Full Race K kits they even explicitly mention that heat shielding is needed.

 

I think id prefer that over radiator/A/c area lol

 

Was wondering about this meself, I saw a pic recently of some random build somewhere and the a/c tube was about an inch from the goddamn header..with foam still on it..

 

I have that issue myself even tho my ramhorn is heat wrapped im scared to install my ac lines, too close for comfort. This is on an "ac friendly" ramhorn, I think ill wrap my lines aswell and give it a try

 

It's easy to heat protect the condensor and pull the lines away from the manifold on B turbo cars, and you can always upgrade the radiator and get a slim fan so you have plenty of room. Plus, since this is way at the front of the bay you have more air coming in and hitting the manifold and turbo itself. In a K swapped car the engine is reversed so it just forms a heat pocket at the back, there's less air hitting behind the head like that.

Anyway, kinda beside the point. I was just wondering what relocation people do or how they shield these components on K cars.

 

I have a few buddies with 700hp setups and minimal heat shielding with no heat issues. Although they dont track (circuit) their cars. I would always recommend a turbo blanket, and propping up the back of the hood will help
