2003 Odyssey with hesitant acceleration
Sometimes when you step on the gas, nothing happens for a few seconds. Then some power, and then nothing again. After three or four times like this, all is well. Starts fine, runs fine otherwise. Doesn't happen when car has been sitting overnight. Happens after it has been driven and then parked for a few minutes up to about 2 hours. Did have engine malfunction light before this started, but turned out to be loose battery cable. When tightened, no more warning light. Had driven it about 20 miles under those conditions. What possibly could be wrong? Thanks.
Local Honda dealer found that right rear wheel speed sensor had failed. Thought this would cause computer to prevent acceleration. Weird thing is that this was intermittent, although increasingly frequent.
Stopped the problem by pushing the button to turn off the automatic traction control. This caused ATC and Engine Malfunction lights to come on. Car runs fine now with no problem. Cost to replace speed sensor estimated as $450, partly due to severe corrosion.
