Default 02 Accord Passenger Window Issue

Hey everyone, I have an issue with the passenger window on my 2002 Accord coupe. It operates normally except when closing it. Instead of smoothly stopping at the top and sealing, it just keeps going and hits the top over and over again if you hold the button up. When it does this it sounds very similar to a machine gun. So the window is never actually fully closed now, I just have to get it close to the top and then try to barely tap the window button a couple times to try to keep the gap as small as possible. Even though there is a gap, it doesn't let it water if I'm washing it or raining. The annoying part is on the highway where that little gap just whistles the whole time. This is my first post on here so I am sorry if this has already been covered, just direct me to the right thread. Otherwise I'd greatly appreciate any help or insight on this issue!

Thanks,

Nate

Default Re: 02 Accord Passenger Window Issue

If the window uses a scissors type mechanical lift mechanism, then most likely the teeth on the gears near where the window would be closed are worn or stripped.
If the window uses a cable type lift mechanism, then the self ratcheting teeth that take up the slack in the cable reel may be damaged or loose. The clock spring which is also used to aid in lifting the window may also be damaged.

Both problems can be caused from over stressing either mechanism at the top of travel, either through someone trying to constantly close a closed window, or someone tried/forced the window when it was in the closed position.

Only real way to know would be to remove the door panel and remove the lift mechanism from the door to inspect properly.
