I believe the B20 will be desirable since you will net more torque which will be better for driving in the real world. Doing a vtec head is good if you are competent in making the hybrid engine work correctly. I haven't done one myself but I did buy a car with a knocking LS vtec engine. I was told at the time by several people that the b18b1 and b20 have such a long stroke that stock internals on the bottom end usually don't mix well with the higher rpms that you will be running on a vtec b series ecu. I was told the stock rods tend to stretch if you turn that engine at a high rpm. Also throwing a turbo setup into the mix is just going to be that much more stress on the engine but IMO 240whp is fine with a stock bottom end b20 its just the high rpms that would kill it.

Im not super familiar with B series engines but I'm just going off of what I learned when I had the LS vtec engine. So there are way more people on here with more knowledge on B series than I have. I will say this though that d16z6 would handle 240whp so long as its a healthy engine, you have a good tuner and a good turbo setup, it wont make as much torque but the horsepower can happen easily. just need a little more cash flow than the mentioned $2600.

Get to know a few guys on here and read up a little, it really helps! Good luck with the build!

agreed for the most part although if you build it right you dont need to worry about RS ratio, tons of LS vtecs out there doing just fine

B series > D series in so many ways. I would personally stay away from B20's I dont like thinking about how thin the cylinders walls are but at that power level it would be fine

Default Whats better to swap a b18b1 or a b20b

I plan on adding turbo down the line so Ive been reading that a b20 wouldn't handle high rpms as well and I want to avoid cracking the sleeves would a b18b1 be a better option to swap into my 93 coupe they have around the same HP also I plan on keeping the internals stock or would i need to upgrade something for b18

Well I'm thinking about getting 240 hp with turbo but I made my mind up and I'm not going for b18b1 I'm going for b18c1 because of the vtec head if I read correctly and also I would need my car to get bar'd so a b20 would not be possible because of the engine if im correct what do you think and i know I've been googling like crazy sorry for the newb questions

You need to use punctuation. You won't get far here with never ending sentences.

You need to use the search button. Plenty of threads out there to answer these questions.

The b18b1's are good until 300whp with aq stock long block (need arp head studs) and the gsr stock long blocks are typically good up to 400whp (need arp head studs) and the gsr swaps are about $1000 more than a b18b1

for your power goal of 240hp... a b18b1 will get you there easily. and you would only need about 10psi on a medium sized turbo. save your money and dont buy the gsr, and put that 1000$ into quality parts.
