Axles, axles, axles, help me decide, DSS / Raxles
So, my CVs are clicking and I want to fix as I'm already re-doing my whole front end.
The car is currently my DD and being built up to be a rally car, maybe 300hp max. Other than some hard street driving, rallying on mostly gravel, I don't think I'd be worried much about breaking axles.
I read around and it seems like the best option for not a huge amount of cash is Raxles. From posts on TI and HT, it seems like the average cost was about $150 each or $300 for a pair.
I contacted Raxles, they're now $299 *each* plus $60 shipping each, so $720 USD for the pair or about $950 CAD. Also double what I've read anyone else pay for them, apparently their prices have doubled since at least 2011.
DSS level 0, which seems pretty equivalent (am I wrong?), is $299 for the *pair*.
I can also get a pair off rockauto for $125. Haven't looked locally yet. I know they won't be as good, but cheap almost makes it worth it. If I can get a pair with lifetime warranty, at least I can abuse them until I can afford better, though I hate doing that and would rather do it right the first time.
Seriously considering the DSS0's at this point but I wanted input.

I can also get used OEM axles from PnP for about $24 USD each including cores, but I'd have to find a good set.
I would buy the used OEM and replace only the CV joints.
look for not rusted out shaft all the 3 axles with new CV joints will be arround 350$. to recondition yourself.

Raxles is the way to go I replaced my stock 94 Integra axels, [destroyed auto crossing w/ 75 shot] they are still good after 12 years, [auto crossing 9 of those years] I have a few friends that also use Raxles. 94
Not saying they aren't worth it but, the cost is a lot. Double DSS 0? The price you would've paid 12 years ago, I would do it. Apparently they were 150 each in 2011, I'd pay that in a second.
The local part store axles looked decent. Looks meaning SFA mostly but at least it didn't look like junk, though one of the joints felt a little stiff/almost dry-ish on the one I looked at, other side seemed smoother.
$250 CAD for a pair, they're "100% new axles", 5 year warranty. I forget the brand name they said.
Took pics.
@atanatas, what would the benefit of doing just the CVs be? I could just do the ones in the car at that point, don't think I'd get some from the JY if I went that route, I can't seem to find just replacement CVs.

What about Yonaka?
Apparently tested to 250 hp, $140 usd for pair (on sale but out of stock?)
Acura Integra 1994 to 2001 GS-R driveshaft (Axles)

I had Raxles on my H22 Civic and they were/still are super beefy in comparison to the autostore axles I usually buy. For the cost, they are the way to go. Another option are those insane shaft axles too.
Apparently Raxles thinks they are so popular now that they can charge $250 for axles when I called them. No thanks. The parts store axles tend to use cheap quality boots which tend to rip for no reason after only 1000 miles for me. I've been using Cardone from rockauto with no issues now. They're like $60 bucks with limited lifetime warranty.
it depends on what you're using the axles for though. I did hundreds of hits at the drag strip with my raxles and they are good as new and were way better built than any autoparts store axle i've used in the past.
Ditto the above, I was on my 2nd set of axels, the stock ones and then the set of Lordco "stock replacements" The boots went on the Lordco axels in les then one year and the CV joint in one a few mo. later,
Have not had a problem with my Raxles in 12 years.
The saying is "you get what you pay for". 94

As I said, use is presently dd mild rally and eventually full rally.
I may go with rockauto ones for now and get dss or something after I put my roll cage in.

It's too bad that Raxles upped their prices. They have a really good product. To be fair, they were $200 a side for as long as I can remember so they're due for an increase... But $299 is a bit steep.
Parts store axles are junk. The "new" ones are all cheap east Asia garbage with a warranty. When I stopped buying them I stopped having strange vibrations and leaky boots and all the other nonsense.

I went with Cardone's brand new axles, for now from rockauto. I don't have enough to justify better ones right now while it's still in DD stage. For $120 CAD for a pair, not too bad, hoping they last a year, gives me more cash to buy my turbo piping quicker.
Then, I can buy better ones for rally and not have to beat them up with any DD duty and install them when ready.
Just hoping that they'll do half-decent for now.
Will probably go the DSS route in the future.

I've read nothing but good things on the Drive Shaft Shop axles. The level 0 should be great up to your 300 WHP but DSS doesn't warranty the level 0's. They will warranty the level 3.9's that are said to be good up to 450 WHP or so.
The level 0's are superior to any autozone replacements with or without lifetime warranty. And they are supposed to be an upgrade to OEM. The top two seem to be Raxle and DSS.
Best of luck.

Thanks for the details about the dss0 and warranty. Surprised they dont but i suppose if they did everyone would prob use them and jjst replace if/when they break. Will probably go with 3.9s at least then in the future, warranty is good when you race, lol.
One issue I have is that the higher level dss needs specific hubs ? I'm doing 4x114.3 it swap..dunno if that'll mess me up or not.
For now as I said, until DD service is over, using Cardone new ones, we'll see how they look when they arrive.

I figure if you will be sticking to 250 WHP or lower, you will never have problems with the level 0's so a moot point until a boot rips.
If the car isn't going to be launched from a standing start or on an aggressive tire the level 0's would be more than enough for what you're doing. The next option above that would be the 2.9's which are rated to 500hp/fits the stock hub and comes with a 1yr Warranty.
Its all personal preference but anything except parts store reman (best of junk parts put together) axles would be fine.

Yeah, I agree basically what I said anyway. When the car has a cage and built motor I'll consider upgrading but really I doubt I'd break even crappy ones on gravel unless they physically got hit/torn over a jump or something, which is what my eventual skid plate will be for. Lol.
