01 civic died while driving, will start but won't keep running?
I have a 01 Honda Civic that runs great. Last week my maintenance light came on and the code reader says P1298. My car ran perfectly fine for about a week. Yesterday I was driving and it died out of nowhere, and now it will start but shuts right off. Not battery or oil problem. Any idea what this could be??? Doesn't seem related to the code based on research but it didn't seem to have any other problems. Help?
The antitheft, [transponder key] system disables the fuel system, either the fuel pump or injectors, so if you still have fuel then it can't be a problem with the immobilizer, it also prevents starting and should not stall an already running engine.
What is happening with the immobilizer light on the cluster when starting and when engine stalls?
This sounds more like a problem with the PGM-FI Main Relay, a common problem on Honda/Acura... Main Relay Fix and Troubleshooting (Honda, Acura) or the fuel pump, coil or ICM all susceptible to intermittent failure.
If you google how to beat the 01 Civic transponder immobilizer system, there are more then a few vids of how-to. 94

Thank you! Sounds like it is not the anti theft then. I will research it a bit more. I know the fuel pump and fuel filter are fine but I do not know much about cars. Just that I need mine fixed ASAP lol.
Just because the fuel pump is "fine" does not mean you are getting fuel, fuel to the cylinders is controlled by the ECU, supplying a ground pulse to each injector, P1298 is ELD "high currant".
Reset the ECU, disconnect batt. neg., wait 15min. then reconnect and see if code is still there.94
