Ok so I'm going to say straight up. Im not going to engine swap at all i just wanna restore it, lower it, and things like that so no crazy stuff happening here. Oh and I'm also new to honda tech but i like it so far so i thought id do this for fun, So heres the story. I turned 16 and wanted a car. just started working checker at a convience store in kansas. Have around 700 saved up and looking for a car, was always in love with Toyotas and nissans (Ae86 Supra 240z 240sx etc etc ), never imagined buying a ej hatch but oh well i never regret it i love it. So my dad visits me at work and says he found a good starter for around 800. i drive past it once and see a raggedy old civic hatch and say yes. ( i had to leave for the weekend so i couldn't check it out myself but i trusted my dad enough). so i come back from my weekend trip to see a really faded roma red ej hatch. Looking i notice right away that it has dings all over, the front bumper is hanging off and theres a good sized dent in the FL fender and RR fender. I start her up and immediately notice that it needs a new battery from the slow crank, and i also realize it must have a hole in the exhaust or crack in the header from the deep sound it has at idle. ill take more pics tomorrow and finish catching you guys up with where i am on the whole part but please remember I'm a high school student with a part time job, and I'm fully enrolled as a college student for automotive so nothing super crazy or special going on. but i do have a yonaka exhaust coming in a few days so some special but not anything crazy i have a budget XD thanks for looking!! will post more soon!
its pretty clean now but it was horrid when i first got it i deep cleaned it pretty well
Don't plan on using these much lol
needs a paint job and headlight restoration but those come later need more money first
it was nasty so i drift stitched it kinda...
used the boiling water method and popped it out. then i stitched it again
Checked the valve train and also replaced the valve gasket and the O ring seat things cause oil was leaking into the spark plugs.
Vid of me trying to make it up our steep *** hill of a driveway for the first time... turns out the clutch was completely shot it wouldn't engage at all lol good times

so you're on a budget. If after you try to sand down those headlights to get them clear, that you can't. I'd recommend rockauto.com, they have the TYC brand headlights for under $40 each! I have them on mine and they're excellent. TYC made them for stanley, who then sold them to Honda! Yup..
also, your wiper arms, you can paint that with SEM brand trim black spray paint. You can find it at any auto paint store, it will look like stock. I've used that many times. Just thought I'd give you some sources for cheap parts, good fixes.
Omg thanks a ton I've been wondering how to do that with the wipers. will it also work with the window lining? cause thats like pretty much gone lol. and yea i cleared out the headlights already.. I've done more than what I've posted i just didn't wanna post it all at the same time lol thanks tho i will definitely use that on the wipers

yup you mean the window trim where the window comes up out of the door? yup, same color. It will also work on the side moldings, the roof drip rail, and the molding around the quarter window. Now SEM comes in a couple flavors.. the one I used was Trim Black. It has a matte shine to it, just like factory. And what's funny, I think this is the same paint the factory uses! It's THAT good.. about $12 a can.
And good to know you cleaned up the headlights. I know I tried on mine, but they were fogged on the inside. I said screw it, threw in the TYC headlights, for under $40 a piece? No arguments!
oh and about the paint.. you can try Mother's California gold, 3 step process. clean, polish, wax. three bottles.. excellent results, will help get that faded look back to original gloss.

oh hell yea I'm so gonna use that. and yea i used the turtle was headlight restorer and got lucky lol its still a little misty but its alright for now ill fix it more later. and yea i tried polishing and waxing the paint like crazy and got nothing so ig new paint job. but its gonna hafta wait. cause i gotta fix my clutch. i bought a new clutch and had it installed and it was real good but there is no feel to the clutch so i gotta figure that one out lol i tried bleeding it but nah didn't work. but i need to do that, then like A/C, battery, tires, etc etc this was the clutch i got
Which exedy was that? there are two of them available for stock replacements. That's before you get into the "race" series. I know that the stock clutch (I just put one in) doesn't have much of a feel either. It's a hydraulic clutch so it's kind of numb to begin with. I know as I let it out I can start to feel it grab, but that's about the only feel.
And I hear ya about the paint having to wait til later, because yeah gotta have it be able to drive first! lol.. but when you do have the time look into Mother's California Gold 3-step system.. It's my favorite and works very well.
aight ill check it out when i got spare cash.... lol but yea its just the direct oem clutch nothing special at all it was like 80 on amazon i think. but yea i mean like with little force the pedal like shoots to the floor lol i can't even feel it engage through the pedal XD the car just starts moving forward lolol idk maybe it is normal i mean its exactly what it felt like before i put in the new clutch so maybe its just hella light?
yeah that oem kit from exedy is kind of "numb" feeling.. I just looked it up to remind myself. The other one is the stage 1 "racing" clutch, that looks more like the honda one. It's like $280 for the kit. It's the pressure plate on the one you got, it's just not stiff enough, it will work, but people have complained. Hey, for the price of $80 for what you got, at least the car can drive now. Honda's stuff is much more $$$ I just wanted to stock feel it's why I went with it. And yes it's very light (the $80 one).
cool.. glad I can give ya some tips of how to fix stuff. And if your shifter starts to get loose, it's the shifter bushings at the bottom of the shift rod (the one with the shift **** on it). I used Energy Suspension on the shifter stabilizer rod, honda rubber bushings on the shifter, it's smooth yet solid. Just letting ya know.
noice. yea i was thinking about the stage one but i thought the oem would be stiffer but oh well. and i wanted to but a short shifter on, not anything crazy just a little bit shorter would be nice. i also want a new shift know the old one bothers the crap outta me i hate how it looks lol. I also want a keyless entry lol more for the chirp chirp than a real purpose lolol
yeah I hear ya, I couldn't make up my mind with the shifter, because I wasn't sure how much pressure my big hands would put on a short shifter. I just kept the stock one. But re-doing the bushings and then throwing in the polyurethane for the shift rod, stiffened it, but kept it smooth. Feels awesome. Well you paid $600 you'd expect not to get everything in perfect order, lol.. yeah the dx doesn't have the radio that does the keyless entry since honda built it into the radio. I think it was 99-00 they separated that module. Sucks if you replace the radio! and yeah it can honk or not honk, very cool to select between the two.
also.. I did post it up.. check out the return spring on the clutch pedal.. see if that's your weak spot feeling the clutch. I had to replace mine long ago.
ok heck yea ill check the spring thats a good idea. and yea 600 isn't bad at all it only has like 130k on it and my dad knows the seller personally so its not a cluster switch it just wasn't taken care of the best. but yea i wanna change the radio and all that but this like way down the road lol the list is too long XD and yea mines a cx so like base everything lol not even a cd player, and no power steering haha i can live without the power steering tho don't care to much for that rn i really want some gsr blades tho lol I'm getting ahead of myself but ill get there eventually!
yeah your radio doesn't even have the keyless entry built into it, so it's not like you're losing anything you don't already have! Yeah I think you even have crank windows. Definitely going old school! Manual EVERYTHING! well, less to break! cool.. sounds like you got a deal on a good platform to work on. Keep us posted! oh and yeah I'd like to know what ya find out about that clutch spring..
oh one thing.. please check this.. find out when the timing belt was replaced! If it snaps you'll have severe engine damage. the replacement is like every 60-90k miles. The water pump also gets replaced then too.
Yea he said he replaced it with the whole 100,000 mile tune up. And yea everything is manual everything lol but I like it. It's nice XD as a kid it's like everything j ever wanted lol except pop up headlights lol. But yea Thanks I'll keep posting updated I'm super excited about how it's gonna turn out
But yea I'll probably need to change the water pump. So I'll probs just change the belt while I'm at it lol I hrs that I did it for my parents 04 civic sedan. And I've done them in automotive school but they just take forever to di
Alrighty guys!!!! just put on the yonaka exhaust!! and threw in a new battery (the old one was like 7 years old) i love the sound but the tip is a little too big... will post pics when i get the chance
YOSH!!!! just got around to putting on the new yonaka. i love it but the tip is a little too big for my taste its 4'' in other words hugggeeee!!!!! but it works great. i just had to bend the heat shield a little to help it fit without rattling but its great other then that. i wanted a greddy evo 2. but that was 600 and I've made it clear i don't have that kind of money so for 220 this is a great exhaust. tell me what you think
