h23a blue top swap is it worth it
im wanting to swap my f23 to a h23A blue top and i was wondering if its a good idea ive already check out the motor its nice its just if i should get it the thing that im looking for is about 400 450 hp boosted and to spend about 5gs
I think if you are not sure if you want H23A BT then 400/450 boosted is out of your range of experience. I'm not trying a be an jerk on this but once you start getting into those higher power ranges you should be asking questions about Sleeves, compression and fuel Management and not what stock Honda engine you are starting with. I would start with a much more reasonable goal and work from there.
H23A BT swap is going to cost you $2500 easily if you do the work yourself. Supporting mods I/H/E I would roughly say another $750, You should most likely have Oil Pressure gauge, water temp, fuel pressure and maybe a tach (since the stock ones tend to take a crap) and possibly a wide band, theres another $500.
So very roughly you are looking at around $4k before any internal engine work, Turbo, fuel system.
You could slap a Turbo on a F23, upgrade the fuel system, get a chipped ECU and tuned and you should be able to get into the 300/350 range range but I wouldn't count on it lasting too long without putting money into supporting mods and the tools you need to monitor it. All it takes is one pull running lean or super rich and boom you are starting over again. I have been reading posts from many of the very experienced guys on the forums and they have all at some point met with disaster, broken ringlands, broken rods, hole in the piston. If you plan to get up in those high power ranges it turns into a money pit or it ends up with a Head and supporting mods being parted out on the sale forum. haha
All of that said, I love my H23AV, I have yet to get to the Dyno but I'm hoping to be in the 195/215 HP range. I'm in about $3k with the swap/wide band and misc other things. I reused what I could including the exhaust and intake. I'm trying to make sure I have done everything I can to be successful before getting the tune done, I don't want to have to tune my engine every 6 months as I make changes.
