Default tsx swap?

I have been looking for an engine that, in stock form, puts out 200hp or just over that to swap in to my 97' civic ex coupe. Please let me know if it is possible to swap maybe a TSX engine, or if there is a different set-up that can make close to the same power in stock form. I am looking sor a stock form engine so that it is still at the most reliable daily driving state and still easier for the mechanics to work on at the dealer because I have talked to mechanics at Honda dealers and they say it is a pain to work on egnines that have mismatched bottom and top ends. I have also thought about the b18c5 swap.

Yes, you can swap a K24 engine into your Civic. However, you'll be spending a lot of money trying to do it. A B18C-R is a great choice and a lot easier to put in.

blue is correct, for the money at the moment best bang for the buck would be Type R Swap, but if you have the money bro...hehe you can swap any k-motor into your civic...i think on average price is about $6-8,000

is the b18C-R street legal in a civic in california? The civic is my only ride and will be for the next two years or so. Also, if I swap the b18C-R will I need stronger axles and what transmission/ miscellaneous parts will I need for a complete swap to not have anything break since it will be driven daily. Could you also give me a ballpark of what the total cost would be? Thanks.

i am not 100% sure for CA, i know they strict, you prolly wanted to check in to that before you get the motor, i know you have to get it BARED (sp) or BAR to make it legally to drive...

As long as the motor is newer than your car and run the US spec emission equivalents of the B18C (if you get the B18C), you should be fine.

thanks guys, you helped me with my decision a lot. Is this a good foundation to build a turbo street sleeper? if it is, what companies make reliable yet powerful turbos and kits?

If you have the money, a K swap would be the best engine to start with if you're going to build it.

what about the B18C-R? I am looking to turbo whatever engine I get if that helps. Or, what about the RSX typeR engine?

if your planning on boosting your car, i would recommand you getting a GSR, because it will be a waste of money...if your get a NA beast and then boosting...i dont mean it is not possible i have a couple of buddy that has TYPE R and they are boosting but what i am trying to say is it will cost more.(due to tunning and cost of motor)..due to the high compression and you have to be more careful...good luck bro

would you recomend a gsr b18 or is the h22 a better one to boost, it does come with 200hp and 161lb-ft of torque stock. I am just checking out all of my options first before I start spending the dough. I want the most reliable daily driver so with that in mind, which one is best for what I want to do?

K24 longblock for $1200 shipped, WHO THE expletive SAID ITS $6-8k???????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????

now the tranny might cost you another $1000-2000 but K24 is the best bang for the buck if you have the time and patience to get it in. search K20 swap, same deal, just alot cheaper.

what are the K24 engine specs(hp, lb.-ft., etc)? How great of an engine is this for boosting? Is this better than a K20 or visa versa? Where do I go to find this deal you presented me? I have a 97' civic ex coupe, how much trouble is it to actually swap a K24 in vs. a K20? Thanks for the help.

I think you'd be better off doing an LS swap. You don't seem to know enough to do a K or H series swap. You would probably get some shop to do it for a **** load of money. An LS would make a great daily driver with good turbo potential. They are cheap and you can find them anywhere.

Yes the B18C-r can be legal(the very limited ITR is similar enough...think the compression is a little bit more in te jdm version though), to legalize it yopu'd have to go through the BAR process.

I'll tell you right now if you want to BAR any swap in your '97 car it's going to be very tough. as mentioned you'll have to make sure the engine is the year of the car or newer. The big problem is the 2 different versions of obd2 (a for 96-98 models &B for 99& newer...may have the year off by a year but it's around that.) I'm not quite sure of the differences but I do know more wiring is inolved to go from 2a to 2b etc. they will not allow the conversion harnesses like that for BAR. If you really want a BARd swap the easier route would be sell your car and get an OBD1 92-95 and do like a GSR swap or something or you could by my eg with a BARd B16 swap already in it(shameless quick plug haha).

Also I believe K series can't be BARd because of the fuel return lines(might only be on the k20s though) as well as something about an immoilizer.

i don't forget you have to get new mounts if you want to go kseries. cheap motor w/ promising turbo outcomes would be the LS b18 motor. if you have the money get the GSR. do you want to keep A/C?
