Default 00 Civic EX - Prolong life of auto tranny?

Long time lurker here for a few years and finally made an account. I drive an 00 Civic EX coupe and want to know if there are any ways to prolong the life of the slushbox auto trannies that Honda makes other than frequent fluid checks/changes? Ive had to replace a trans on my last car (95 accord) and now im in the process of putting a tranny in my little brother's 98 accord. Anybody knows exactly why the auto trannies have a high failure rate? Btw its alway second gesr when they fail...weird

multiple tsb's, linear solenoid issues, etc. trans coolers/inline filters help.

Ive been researching the trans cooler method and havent found anyone posting any results like smoother shifts, better heat reduction etc. Thats the route im planning on going with. Im really tired of dropping these auto slushboxes. I need to save up for a 5 speed swap

Smooth shifting -- Using Castrol for Imports, drain and refill transmission a minimum of three consecutive times after you install it.

Don't use the auto transmission like it's a manual.

You recommend Castrol ATF? I take your opinions to heart RonJ, you have never steered me wrong. Everyone is always swearing by the Honda stuff, i never questioned to use anything else.

Honda ATF is fine. I recommend Castrol Import because it's just as good in my opinion but costs less.

i only use castrol import. honda atf has been reformulated a bunch of times since our cars were made, the castrol is more than fine. if your 00 trans is shifting hard, look at the linear solenoid tsb.

Now that the magnefine has been installed awhile, I find my wife's slushbox shifts quite a bit better.

I did a 9 liter tranmission pump flush (1 liter at a time) and installed the magnefine inline filter. She still shifted hard even right after exchanging 9 liters of fluid.

But now that it has driven awhile (Filter installed April of 2014) I notice her car shifts a lot more in line with what I would expect.

You can see where I installed it on her 93 civic here:

I'm probably do to change oiut the filter. It's likely caught a lot of garbage from the stock radiator trans cooler and any crap that flushed out of the torque converter etc.

Bought them right from their website and they shipped to me here in Canada with no issue:

TomCat that sounds like a good Idea. My bro's transmission has weird shifts under 3K rpms. Its safe to say I really need to flush the fluid to remove any impurities and test it out to see if a filter would do it any good.

It sure as hell doesn't hurt to try, 100 bucks or less vs 1500-3k dollars for a replacement vs 500 dollars or less for a used.

for. *****. sakes. its like i say things and newbies prefer not to read or acknowledge them because they may require more actual work than changing fluid. http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/tsb/crv/x00-012e.pdf sound familiar?
