Looking for opinions - Bordering on overheating.
Hey everyone,
I have a 1999 honda civic cx, 5 speed manual without A/C.
When I drive my car it is almost always needing the radiator fan running even when driving at 60+ KP/h. It seems the car is constantly in a state of trying to overheat. Although if I am driving at over 80KP/h the engine temp goes back down to 86C. For the last two years I have owned the car prior to this summer the coolant temperature when hot was almost never outside of 84-88C /183-190f
It seems like the Thermostat is working since the car does not overheat at higher speeds.
I do have a scan gauge hooked up to my car and I am always watching the temperature. It is not really that hot where I live, generally about 20-24 Celsius 68-75F
I have a new water pump, new coolant, new rad fan switch.
Also no check engine light.
Any suggestions as to what you think is causing my higher than normal temperatures?

Have the rad flushed.
Also if the temp is OK, below 190F then check the ECT switch, and if stock temp gauge is showing overheating and you scanner is not check the ECT sending unit.
Also, as they are cheap, replace the thermostat, it may not be working properly, [I would start with it]. 94

Make sure the system is completely full. Park on level ground, wait until cold then remove radiator cap, the radiator should be full to the top. Another sign of not being completely full is the heater doesn't work well at idle.
Check the outside of the radiator core for corrosion. If the air fins are loose and falling off, cooling efficiency declines seriously.

Now that I have had the time to look at the rad, all of the cooling fins are bent, literally all of them. So that needs to be replaced.
Honda wants 500 for a rad, so I am not going to be using OEM.
So it looks like it comes down to one of these, any thoughts on which one will be better suited for my car?

Ouch,
I replaced my rad in my 95 as the top plastic part of the tank cracked on me.
I went to Lordco and spent 100 bucks. The same was quoted at Canadian Tire.
Since you are in Canada, you might try either of those locally first before spending 140 before shipping from Autopartsway.
If I recall Canadian Tire might even give a lifetime warranty on their rad. Don't remember if Lordco did but think they might have.
Might just come out cheaper and get it faster as Autopartway.ca also has shipping on top of that price, I've used them for several parts too.
