94 Civic/d16y8 swap - no oil pressure
I have a 94 eg sedan with a d16y8. I just replaced the oil pump maybe 3 months ago BC it stopped working. Now all the sudden it's full on the dipstick but has no pressure. The oil light has been flickering that's how I know it has no pressure. The vtec solenoid has been leaking oil. I always kept it full. I'm not driving it for the time being. Just happened yesterday. Hard to hear any strange sounds BC my exhaust is too loud. I opened the hood and gave it acceleration from the throttle cable. While idling it sounds fine but when I accelerate it sounds like it has no oil. Am I gonna have to replace my oil pump again?
U can hear the valves ticking just like last time when I replaced the oil pump. U know that leak was so bad I was filling it up with oil everyday, at least 2 qts. So maybe I let it get low too many times which burned the oil pump up?
So excessive valve tick is what I'm assuming you're hearing. Without a gauge reading, there's no way to see what the pump is doing (without, say, pulling the valve cover off with it running to see if it's shootin around up there lol).

I'll try that, I was looking for the oil leak from the vtec, that disappeared and I never fixed it. But I'll try that when if when I get a chance later today
These engines do not have hydraulic lifters, so the valves don't get loose because of low oil pressure.
If you ran out of oil there could be bearing damage-- when the bearings are shot they let oil run out of the gap and oil pressure can't build.
Also the oil pickup tube has an o-ring at the top of the pipe where it meets the pump, if this is bad the pump ends up sucking air and you have pressure problems.

dude, put a mechanical gauge on it and get a reading if you could.
