Fast spooling turbo that's doesn't break the bank?
Current spec is b16 with forged pistons/rods with a copy cat gt30
Made 380hp at 15psi.
I now only use this car on the track. And I'm aware eventually my luck with this Chinese turbo will run out.
So I'm looking for a turbo to replace it with. Along with the manifold for a ramhorn or something else that maybe you suggest.
Basically I need to have something which can spool up easy and make a comfy 450hp (flywheel) for as and when I turn the boost up more .
Don't want to spend insane money, but understand I will need to dig deep.
What do you recommend for my needs?
As said. Literally just use this on track and eventually compete in time attack next year.

You need to give a monetary figure and not an implied presumption. You also need to state whether or not you want journal or ball-bearing CHRA, if you have a certain housing size you need or turbine bolt pattern.
What exhaust manifold are you using? what is the purpose of the car? What fuel are you getting the 380whp@15psi with? Your elevation?
These must be answered before we can even continue here. You're being MUCH too vague with your question.

I've told you the purpose of the car. Mentioned that twice to be fair.
In fact. I've also mentioned flywheel power. Not whp.
I've also mentioned I'll be buying a ramhorn at the same time.
With regards to turbo being journal or ball bearing. That's what I'm here for. Advice
Pretty much everything you have asked I've already covered. I have no idea what you have read.
I'm sorry, but did you even read my post at all?

Ok. comments in blue. I'll show you where you're not making sense.
"Track".... Does that mean drag race? Circuit race? Auto X? VAGUE DESCRIPTION.
Are you describing perhaps Intake manifold to go along with a "Ramhorn?", or are you asking us to suggest an exhaust manifold other than the "Ramhorn" you may, or may not have? VAGUE
So, by most accounts of driveline loss of about 15%, you're looking at 380whp, (power to the wheels is the standard in which this is rated in the turbocharger world).. It would be less VAGUE to state that.
Knowing what fuel that you're using to achieve this goal as well as your elevation makes the biggest difference as to what size turbocharger you're trying to use. what works in one circumstance for size in one elevation, may not work in another elevation. Same goes along with fuel. There are plenty of turbochargers that can make 380whp, but if we don't know your location (and elevation), and what fuel you plan to use, the turbo may be the incorrect size because it may take high knock-resistant fuel to reach 380whp in one size, or 93 octane on another size. If we don't know what type of "track" you're racing on, we can't narrow down what sizes are needed for that power level. See how the relationship is coming now?
This is where the monetary budget comes into play here. What may "break" one's bank, may not "break another's". You have to have a maximum willingness to spend when it comes to turbochargers.
So you're saying "Track" again, and THEN compete in Time attack.., which you DID NOT SAY in your 1st post. So, that means Drag race(?) , and Time attack use.
If you're in Time Attack, You're at least narrowing down companies to Borg-Warner and Garrett (with their affiliates), which assumes ball-bearing CHRA, and the use of water lines. Since you did not include these in your "Budget", we don't know if this constitutes your "breaking the bank" or not... In addition, your location helps with knowing your availability of certain turbochargers and the needed components.. also a part of your "bank".. If you're in a different country, availability might be different.
It's all related.
Which would be a DUMB thing to do for a B16 going for time attack. That manifold is not made for best options for your need for that purpose. The runners are too wide (at over 1.5" diameter on average), with lengths that are made for large exhaust VOLUME, which is for drag racing.. Not VELOCITY, which is needed for time attack.
Actually, NO ONE would have understood what you've stated so far in that 1st post. You'd have sat here in limbo, or had been told to "SEARCH".. or something else ridiculous.
I'm helping you out by first making sure you understand how to ask the right QUESTIONS.. so that when you research outside of this forum or any place else, you can keep your MISSION in mind and not confuse others by these vague descriptions and parameters you're setting.
You can't get the right advice, without asking the right questions in the right manner. This is to help you out in your LONG game as well as just information here. We can only go by what you type, and if that isn't clearly typed, you just get .. well, empty space, and no answers.
Maybe that means that you have more to think about with regard to the components outside of the turbocharger, so that they work WITH the turbocharger for your goals. Not just power, but how the car behaves.
I hoped this at least got you to think about rephrasing your questions. We don't mind helping out at all. But we won't make guesses if the poster isn't willing to put in the effort to be as clear as possible.

You most definitely do not need a ramhorn manifold for the power and purpose. You'll be much happier with a miniram or nice tubular log.
Not to mention the miniram is way easier to work on and a ton less surface area to heat up the engine bay.
Not to mention the miniram is way easier to work on and a ton less surface area to heat up the engine bay.
Well, he needs to look at other concerns for Time Attack and the amount of abuse in addition to the manifold. Water lines, blankets, heat wrapping devices, proper oil cooler, intercooler type etc. etc.. etc.
This is simply the beginning..

Shodan you really have patience brother. I see you going out of your way to break this stuff down for the disrespectful newbs who come on here looking for spoonfuls of help. I commend you wholeheartedly.
Insider, try having a little humility when a pro with such extensive knowledge is willing to come in and help guide you to the correct answer. Then you people wonder why you're constantly being told to search or getting no responses at all. If not for people like Shodan this place would be a ghost town with the random newbs telling other random newbs that their ebay turbo worked for a month so all ebay turbos are now legit options for everyone... it is a sad world we live in

When someone rips apart a question with seemingly no evidence they had read a single thing. It's a little frustrating.
To suggest I never mentioned time attack. You can clearly see my post is unedited and I had stated that next year I'm entering time attack.
In the UK. "Track" means 1 thing. 1 thing only. Not drag. Not Street, track.. That's an easy thing to get mistaken with if the term is used so vaguely in the states. Over here it just means 1 thing. There is no confusion.
The question on the ramhorn was just that. There was no need for any insult on the suggestion. I didn't know the answer, it was nearly a suggestion.
Also, I mentioned flywheel power. not whp. Regardless that whp is a term more commonly used. I still did make the point of saying flywheel power.
The fuel I run is shell v power 99ron.
With regards to budget. I didn't want to put a figure on it. I didn't want to say I'm looking at £1000 and then be given every turbo in that price region. When one for £700 would be suitable for my needs.
I appreciate any advice and to say I'm being disrespectful is stupid.
I stand by that my original post wasn't confusing and that for some reason you took great offence to it. Even lieing about me mentioning time attack in it.
My oil cooler, intercooler. Charge pipes. Engine build is solid. Exhaust, wastegate and map are all good.
I merely asked what turbo is good for my power goals and use.
I fully didn't expect someone to get sand in their vagina because they didn't read it correctly or understand fully the terms used.

Insider,
Even though your post may seam like you provided all the correct information, if you reread what Shodan wrote in blue you will see where there can be ambiguous statements. Ie, your mention of a ramhorn. It may make sense to you as you wrote it, but reading it, it can be taken a couple different ways. The fact that shodan spent that much time to get very specific with explanations behind his questions is evidence enough that he is genuinely trying to provide you solid answer. He just needs more information to provide that answer.
Was he a lil brash? Yeah. But he didnt troll you or flame you. He spent his own time trying to provide you with a customized, individualized, specific answer to your location and budget. You should provide all the answers to his questions and see what advice is given.

Too late for that now. I'm betting the OP is going to start bashing HT and the US on his local forum for providing helpful comments in his search for the right turbo. Try to be tactful when seeking advice. Shodan has a wealth of knowledge in this arena and is willing to provide you solutions without asking anything in return. Try going to a speed shop and ask them for advice. See what they have to offer you.
OP must think we're all from the UK....Grow the *** up.
off topic: @theshodan I haven't had a chance to take apart my edelbrock turbo but its been staring at me from inside the storage bin...waiting...

The only one with sand in their vag is you buddy. You need to step outside your little box and read your comment as if you weren't you to understand how other people see it, you are not the world, the world is not you. Also I know plenty of Brits that would beg to differ about your "track only being time attack here" statement but I am not going to argue with you, you seem triggered enough as it is. I could break down your whole last post line by line and point out where you're wrong at every turn but I really dont care that much.
Fact is, you wanted info how you wanted it. It didnt happen because there are people on this board that know better and dont spout off nonsense. They actually try to help in more ways than you know, but because it's not what you wanted to hear (i.e. spoonfed to you) you get all uppity about it. I say again, this is why this community/industry/forum is dying/dead.
Nobody wants to do even the slightest bit of work or research. It's just, hey I want to go fast as cheap as possible, then once my rings blow, my fenders are janky from my -50 offset wheels jamming into them when I drive over a toothpick, and my car is stickerbombed or rusted to death, I'll just pass it off to the next hypebeast with guages in his ears for a premium and move on to the next big thing. Maybe modding vapes, hoverboards, or even a Ruckus! If you're really baller you can have your modded vape in your pocket, your hoverboard strapped to your backpack, all while riding your blinged out Ruckus that you spent good money on which you will never get back...
/rant lol that went way further than I wanted it to..........

I mean, as long as you are happy with the answer that you were given. I guess in the end that's all that matters in the end, for better or for worse, right, mate?

You seem so agro about this. . Im just curious as to whether or not your ex trying to have fun with this, or compete with a whole bunch of other people. Life is just too short to worry about stuff like that with such anxiety and anger.
Try bongo drums, huge bag of weed, meditation, anything to just get you to relax a little bit. You might want get checked about your cardiac health at this rate, if this is how you act on a just a Web forum.
Well, good luck with everything. I'm glad you found your answer, even though it was just as vague as the question you asked.
You just dont get it Mac, he wanted someone to suggest him a turbo. Why do all the other details matter so much? Why cant you people just give others what they want, when they want it, how they want it? I mean, caring about whether or not the advice you give is correct is so passe...
This is the age of Chinese turbos, hellaflush, illest, #(...), hypebeast, and vape nation. We do **** quick and dirty nahmean? Get with it old timer....

I ran the CXRacing T3/T4 .60 A/R on my GSR for years. Never blew at 300whp while daily driving. Paired with a inline-pro log manifold I had full boost at 3000 rpm every time. Good luck!
From my first post in this thread... wow
"Fast spooling" relative to what? After your 450 flywheel hp, how MUCH more would you eventually want to "turn up the boost"? You know you have to "dig deep" but haven't given an actual monetary number. The guys above me aren't trying to be ******** man, the reality is that you gave no (good) information to narrow down what turbo is in your job scope.
-Let's try this-
Fast spooling: I can sit here and tell you that's a GT35 or a 6262 may be fast spooling comparing it to a GT40. But maybe you want a much smaller turbo since you're doing autocross and not drag right? at what RPM would you like full boost? Exactly how fast do you want the boost to hit? What characteristics do you want from the turbo?
Turn up the boost: exactly how much more headroom do you want for future power? Remember that the more cushion you leave up top, (generally) it's going to be at a cost of low rpm performance, rendering your "fast spooling" idea void. And it's not just about turning up the boost. What size injectors do you have? Do THOSE have more headroom for future tuning? What cams are you using? Are THOSE able to make more power? How's your fuel system? How's your ignition? how's your traction? You can't just "turn up the boost" all ***** nilly just because you want to.
Deep pockets: how deep are your pockets? I can suggest you pick up a GTX3076R, but your pockets may not be deep enough for that. Maybe you can only afford a 600 dollar turbo, I don't know... Give a number. And don't use the excuse that we'd only start looking at turbos at that number only. Give a range if you want to.
Also, the person you blew off that tried getting more specific details from you? He makes some badass custom turbos. That's why he was asking. He can probably put together the perfect setup to do exactly what you want and sell it to you for a fraction of what you'd pay for an off the shelf turbo that wouldn't have all the characteristics of his custom one. But it seems you like letting your ego wild on the Internet. If you come here asking for advice, come with an open mind.
Good luck
