Default My bumper got owned by an 80+ year old man today :-/

This afternoon I took a ride around town to go look for some Ford friction modifier for my tranny and ended up at DiBlasi Ford on Northern Blvd. Luckily for me they had them in stock, along with a few nice Saleens, so I'll be using it with a few bottles of GM synchromesh in my Kaaz LSD eqiupped tranny.

Anyhow to make a long story short, I went by the bank to get my schedual (I work there) and parked at a meter in front of the bank. I noticed a car double parked and parked like in front of him but gave him enough space to maneauver or leave if he wished.

The car, a 90-91 Eclipse, driven by an 80+ year old man who looked like he shouldn't be driving was parked like 2-3 feet behind me so when I parked and got out, I looked at my car and as he was trying to park, he lost control of the car (it was a manual tranny), and it rolled into my rear right hand side bumper....

As his car was rolling I jumped in the front/side of his car to try to stop it from rolling but to my dismay it was too late and he ended him scufing up my bumper. I was yelling at the guy to back off and go in reverse but he was nervous that i would beat him up. I understand that he is elderly so I made sure I didnt swear or curse at the guy.

A few people passing by the bank came to check it out and told me it was minor. I was looking at the damage to see if it was worthwhiel for me to get his insurance info. but decided that it wasn't worth it. Anyhow, when I got home I washed the car and went over the scuffed area with wax and buffed out as much as I could.
From a distance you wouldnt notice it but if you look at certain angles you'll be able to see it...

What a day....I'm glad it wasn't worse.

Anyhow after washing any drying the car, I wanted to wax the whole car but decided that it was too cold outside to be doing it, especially with my cold....

Lessons learned:

1) watch out for elderly people behind the wheel espcially if they have
Handicapped signs displayed on their car.
2) if he was travelling faster, dont jump in front of his car and try to stop it..
3) Avoid parking next to elderly people at all costs

I may post up pics later

Sucks...could have been worse. Poor dude probably pooped his pants...that guy should really drive an auto. Hand coordination isn't exactly great when your old.

he sat there dumbfounded wondering what the sound was until i got out and
made him aware of it.

That sucks I think the DMV should have mandatory re-tests every ~5 years once a person hits like 60 years old.

Retest!?!?

The problem is the tests are too easy to begin with. Drivers need to be disciplined.

Once again, we need German driving tests.

Driver's road test aren't easy around here....I took a "slow" left turn once and they failed me right there.

For real... I have nothing against old people, but driving is a privalage- at least thats what the police say to me when I mess up. Retests sound like a really good idea.

See if you say that when YOU are 60. Food for thought.

I'm sure George would agree that retests would be a good idea.

I think drivers of all ages should be re-tested every once in a while.

$50 to test every 5 years sounds fair to me. People in small town communities should be forced to get their license at the nearest metropolitan.

who's been cut off at least once a month by "farmers" visiting the city.

He was scared and shaking in his seat. He wouldn't really look at me or say anything, when his wife came out from the bank, I told he that he shouldnt be driving and that he hit my car. Anyway, she denied everything and didnt even apologize. I was like okay and just forgeot about it.

There were two guys walking by and they even said that the old man that age shouldnt be driving...

I also remember him trying to put the car in reverse and did it real slow...so who knows, he must be on his way out

Sorry to hear about what happened
Greg - who agrees that the test to get your license is WAY to easy.

Yeah I washed my car and really went all out waxing and detailing it this weekend. I also would park it in direct sunlight just to make sure I buffed everything out.

The car looks perfect now.

On the bumper where the old man hit, you can barely see the scuff marks...
