95, Engine shakes violently
Hey, I'm about to look at a car for my GF's son.
95 Civic Coupe. Auto.
Seller says he was just driving along and "something happened" then his engine started to shake so bad he had to tow it home.
He THINKS its a D16Z6, (it says "1.6 VTEC on the motor dude") and it MIGHT BE, because it has a moonroof, so it SHOULD be an EX? (possibly rear drums tho?)
Anyway, I have some spare sensors and a dizzy for a z6, what should I be looking for? He can't pull codes and its about an hr away, so I'd like to be prepared when I head out.

EDIT: He CLAIMS it has no engine knocks, just shakes so bad you can't drive.. if thats true or helps, we'll see...

Could be.. Hope its not the Trans one. PITA to get to

Check all mounts.
Refresh your memory on how to pull codes without a scanner if you can't remember, it's in the FAQ section
Note any codes and any mounts that have to be replaced. If mounts are good check drive shaft & power steering as well as bushings & control arms for damage, excessive wear, play, etc.

I can, and will. Have a Helms I'm taking too.
I'll look at the mounts, but since it does it even at idle, I was thinking it might be a sensor etc.. it SHOULDNT be suspension or drivetrain. (I think I spaced that info in the OP, tho it was supposed to be included lol)
I'm mainly looking for possibilities to check as its an hr away, and I don't want to make too many trips out there.

Your experience will allow you to determine whether the violent shaking is from engine misfiring. CEL code may provide additional insights.
Look for mods in the engine bay. Verify D16Z6 block and head (P08 head), and P28 ECU.
If engine misfire is suspected, check for spark at all 4 spark plugs (bring spare new spark plug) and inspect the distributor.
Also check whether starting fluid smooths out engine running to expose a fuel issue.
You may want to bail out if you suspect a bad cylinder.

I'm hoping he'll let me do a compression test after I ck codes.
And are upper mounts usually the ones that go out? I've had shot Torque ones and I could still drive it.. I'm mainly hoping its not the trans lol.
