HMO: My swap story
Before I start let me just say that I've been browsing this site since it first started (big userbase split from honda-acura.net) so you can keep the elitist newbie comments to yourself. Thanks.
With that said, I decided to make an account and tell my HMO story. It's only fair since I used this site to make my decision on whether or not to go the HMO route.
I initially went the JDMclub route and after a five month wait, received a refund (without hassle I might add) and gave Steve a call. I told him that I was interested in a '98 spec ITR motor and as it turned out, he had one in stock w/ 32k miles on it. I initially agreed to purchase the motor but after some thought, called him back and told him that I would prefer a lower mileage motor. After about a week, he received another container shipment and my new motor w/ 17k miles was on it's way to me. The motor arrived quickly and was well packaged. No sensors were broken, no obvious damage what-so-ever, and all components were there. Now granted I'm relying on Steve's word regarding the mileage of the motor but a compression test resulted in straight numbers across the board, the residual tranny fluid was clear when drained, and valvetrain showed no obvious extreme wear (scoring of lobes, burnt oil discoloration, etc.) when the cover was removed. I also removed the water pump and oil pump to check whether replacement was required and both were well within service limits.
Fast-forward to present, the motor is in the car and 2k loving miles have been placed on it. The motor feels strong and the transmission shifts smoothly with no grinding, and not a single MIL has appeared once (nope, not even during install
) Well that's it folks. I'm not going to debate the HMO topic one way or another but I felt that I should at least put up my experience with them. Hopefully this will help anybody sitting on the fence, unsure of going the HMO route.

well damn....
your story is EXACTLY my story.
went jdmclub route, got refund (after enough bashing), ordered jdm h22, swapped it in 3 days works time and runs very strong.
speaking of compression test, i need to do one.

Ya, I followed your whole ordeal and in actuallity, it was your ordeal that made me question my dealings with JDMclub. After contacting Mark's distributer and getting conflicting accounts I demanded a refund (which came quickly I'll say again). I would have tossed up my JDMclub story but there were enough posts up here saying the same thing that I decided not to. Good to hear that you finally got the swap done and running. Nothing quite like plunking down your hard earned cash only to face the chance of not getting it back.
When I always talk about HMO i normally just talk **** because two of my friends got motors from them... The first was a 1st gen B16 and it just got fucked up when the thrust washer fell out after being in the car for about 4 months, my friend did oil changes all the time and the motor ran good... With just intake and 2.5" exhaust he ran 13.52 in his CRX on MT 20x6x14 slicks... The other was a USDM GSR, they sent it to us with the entire top driver side motor mount holes in the block stripped out the only reason i noticed it was because of all the metal filings that i found inside the timing belt cover when i was swapping the T-belt and water pump... Someone knifed down the sides of those bolts and shot them into the block cracking it.... They tried to charge a 35% restocking fee but they couldn't when the block was cracked. Anyways i'm glad ur motors worked well they just haven't for us... I won't buy anything from them but i'm just glad you guys didn't get screwed.
