i was wondering which wattage amp should i get for my rockford fosgate he2 12" sub (400/800, rms/max watt). i currently have just the stock system and don't plan on upgrading anything else. i was told to get the rockford 250a2 to for my one sub, what do you guys think?

 

Well, you can power a sub with any amp. However the lower the power rating the more you will have to push it or crank up the gain which is never a nice idea. Your recommended sub should be great. Plenty of power so you wont be operating at its limits.

 

I don't know much about RF, but from the spec. you gave us it seems like a decent sub. One thing you do not want to do is under-power your sub, so don't go out and get a crappy amp. When searching for an amp., don't let their MAX power label fool you, look for RMS. Also, look at the fuse(s) on the side. Go for American-made amp., because some Japanese-made amp. are rated differently. Good luck!

 

That amp sounds fine.

I've run up to 4 12" subs down to 1/2 ohm loads on an Orion High-Current amp. The key to not damaging the subs and having nice clean bass are the following 1) an active crossover network (don't rely on ones built in to the amp) 2) plenty of juice (improve your alternator +/- battery to an upgraded one) and 3) use a high-farad capacitor.

for that sub and amp combo sounds like you will get tons of sound. I am currently running one 12" RF XLC ( think thats last years version of what you have now or something like that) and powering it is an old school rockford amp. remember, or maybe you dont when they use to really underrate there amps? Well, i have whats called teh punch 40. Yeah,, i know its old but love it and wouldnt even sell it. I think its rated at like 19.5 watts or something x2 and its all the sound i need. Of course you might like more or less but also remember that almost all rockford subs like small sealed boxes (usually type 1 boxes) and sound best when sealed. But again that will depend on your taste of bass. I prefer a tight, kick ya in the nuts kinda bass, some guys like a loose rub my *** bass. Good luck and wire carefully.

 

maxxdout, are you saying i should go with that amp or not? i mean i am going to be running it with the stock system and i don't plan on upgrading anything else.

 

if its a deal go for it and enjoy. Just be sure to wire it up correctly and take your time. Nothing sucks like going back and fixing a system.
