Default 5lug to 4lug conversion

Yes...trying to go from 5 lug to 4 lug

Car is a 92 civic hatch with an ITR 5 lug conversion with a wilwood/fastbrakes front brake kit.
Since there is no affordable 15x9 or 15x10 wheels that are 5x114.3 I wanted to go to a 4x100 setup.

I grabbed a all new GSR spindles/bearing for all 4 corners.

When test fitting the rears, everything slides into place and seems to fit properly though there is enough
threading on the spline to tighten the axle nut down and the hub is able to move back and forth.

When comparing my old 5lug hubs to the new 4lug hubs it seems that the bearing inside the 4lug doesnt stick out far enough to meet the axle nut.

I believe this should be doable but didnt want to get the fronts pressed in if im missing something big.

thanks

So I typed this up a couple of hours ago and my connection failed right when I hit send... so here goes again.

For clarity, what you have there are hubs, not spindles. The spindle is the part that bolts to the trailing arm and contains the axle.

It's pretty well documented that the five lug stub axle is longer than the four lug one. That's most of the reason people go looking for entire trailing arms instead of just swapping hubs in the first place.

There is a (kinda dodgy) method for a "poor man's" five lug conversion where the thick washer/spacer is omitted and the factory stake nut is replaced with a thinner one from a Mazda Protege and then spot welded in place. You could most likely reverse that process and stack two washer/spacers on there to take up the extra axle length (and you should already have two to try it with!) and stake on a new nut.

Alternatively, you could just get a disc rear trailing arm from the junkyard and swap the four lug spindle over to your setup. The spindle isn't available alone from the dealer and you could likely sell them for a reasonable price and still make a tidy little profit. People still want them afaik.

So, you have at least two options there

Ok...thats not too bad then

What about the fronts? Am i going to see the same issue but with the end of the axle not being long enough?

OP

The hubs are not a direct swap and no way to do proper and safe

Take a trip to junk yard or even better sell or trade the 5 lug for 4 lug

Front axles are the same unless your conversion is from a JDM Integra R. Then you'll need a knuckle swap.

I'll trade you my civic 4 lug setup for your 5 lug setup.
