Default GSR ECU P72 OBD 1 and OBD2

I am not new to racing, building or tuning. However I am somewhat new to the honda scene. I am doing a D16Z6 road race build and I was looking at using the P72 ecu since it has a knock sensor. I was wondering if the P72 OBD1 ecu would both work with the D16z6 harness (I am told it does) and also that the ECU will work with the stock D16Z6 sensors and whatever knock sensor I need to run. I plan on chipping it, with new timing and fuel tables. (I own an ostrich 2.0 and a chip burner). Can I use the P72 obd 1? or do I have to use the 96+ gsr obd 2 ecu? My primary concern is the knock sensor being functional. I don't want to nuke the engine if it heat soak after an hour of WOT 90%.

Also what are the code differences between the OBD 1 and Obd2 P72 ecus? P72 -xxxx?

Thanks!
