Default EM1 Rust Repair Help/Advice

I'll show you what I'm dealing with on my EM1.

What is the "interior of the fuel door" called? The metal where the fuel filler neck is mounted. (Fuel filler pocket maybe?)

Is a replacement part for this made?

I believe this is a pretty common rust area, due to spilled gas And broken seals? Has anyone done this repair before? Any good guides?

It's not due to spilled gas or broken seals. It's because when people wash their car or it rains heavily they don't wipe down all the nooks and crannies.

That is key to keeping any EK chassis clean... Plus you'd have to be a real goof to spill gas all over there while pumping.

As for replacement part, unfortunately no. Cut and weld, find a good body shop and be ready to fork over close to a grand

Agreed. Unfortunately, the rust was there when I bought the car, a little less than two years ago. Any clues has to how to fix it, or maybe where to find a replacement?

Close to a grand? Haha. I was quoted at 1500.

Kinda forgot to answer the initial question lol. It's why you see people going through so many shells, always looking for the perfect rust free one to do a build

Body shops are all rip offs, but the labour is tedious. I have the tiniest rust starting at a similar location and I've got a mint Milano red EK, so I feel your pain. It's partially why I decided to boost it, enjoy it while it still looks good then get rid of her.

Ahh, I don't want to think about getting rid of it. I repaired rust on the other side for less than $300 and it still looks good. It's my first car, so I assume you can understand why I would want to keep it so badly. I have money saved up for wheels and coilovers, but I suppose now that's going into rust repair.

Found this from keystone. Very bottom listing. Someone I know works for them, and says that he's pretty sure that it comes with the whole gas pocket area.

You might be able to find a coupe in a junkyard, put a grinder to it and take the whole side of the car for a lot less. Tell em you'l pay em fifty cents a pound and that scrap will never ever be worth that much LOL
