Oil everywhere, how to clean?
So i found out i had a giant hole in my turbo's return line where it was contacting the downpipe(the steel ziptie i used to hold it away came off somehow) even though the downpipe was wrapped. I replaced my oil return line and everything runs great. The problem now is when the car gets up to temp smoke is everywhere from the oil burning off. It's all over the downpipe wrap, oil pan, the entire underside of the car basically. I was thinking of just going crazy with the engine degreaser and brake cleaner and coating everything and powerwashing it over and over. Will this damage anything? Can i spray that stuff on my header wrap(which is on the turbo hotside and downpipe). Any ideas, it's a big mess.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Just use some degeaser and wipe it all away, use lots of paper towels.
For the wrap, might be worth replacing the wrap.
And do not pressure wash anything with the engine hot.
I would remove the old weap, wipe off as much oil as possible, drive the car a day or 2 so any residue left behind is burned off then wrap some new wrap around it.

Wash it with the soap gun at a car wash, oil is bad for earth and you shouldn't just wash it into a storm drain or yard. Try to avoid plastic, rubber, and electrical stuff like the alternator especially the alternator. Maybe put a bag over the alternator.
If the power washer has enough pressure to cut you, keep it a safe distance away from the bay so you don't break anything.

From: TRILLINOIS....WAY downtown, jerky.
Put down some sheet plastic to make sure nothing gets on the ground, then some flattened cardboard boxes over that to absorb most of the oil, then go to town with engine degreaser and rags/paper towels.

i like to wash engines in this way:
1) Use a cloth to wipe off oil as best as you can (degreaser cannot penetrate thick layers of oil very well)
2) use a degreaser and then use a brush of some sort to agitate the very thin layer of oil(remember, you wiped most of it off in step 1)
3) use a hose and gently spray it off

Thanks all, got it done without any issues (besides the neighbor telling me he was gonna call the EPA). It runs great now, no more smoke. I did put some extra heat wrap in between the line just in case it comes loose again, so i shouldn't have that happen again
For future reference look into dry ice blasting! leaves the metal on the head or block, trans looking fresh and clean and wont damage any electrical parts and does a great job of cleaning the engine and anything else really! had a company in Clairemont, CA blast a dirty block and trans and it looked brand new like it was hot tanked and fresh from the machine shop.
