Im down to the last few steps to get this b20/vtec swap running. Got the engine all wired up lights on the dash turn on and im thinking cool, ill turn the key and itll fire up.
Nope nothing happens it didnt make any noise from the relay and dont hear the pump going, absolutely nothing.
So i remembered i have a couple of spare main relays, so i go grab one get under the dash to remove the old one and i notice one yellow plug with two wires stuck in the end and theyre twisted together like someone made a jumper. Then i notice another plug next to the main relay plug and this plug has one wire pressed into one the pin slots and the other end of the wire in pressed into the pin on the same plug the main relay uses.
So basically im just wondering if anyone knows what the yellow plug is for, and also whats up with the random wire going from one plug into the main relay plug.
Also on another side note, for some reason the pump and main relay only work when the hazard light box is plugged in, idk if this normal, like completing a circuit or something. But before i plugged it in nothing would come on when i turned the key.
Yeah i checked tonight after i got off work and it looks to be the clutch safety plug. There wasnt anything plugged into the clutch safety switch so that makes sense.
Anyone have any ideas on what that other plug with the white and green wire is for?
Only reason im asking is because when i try starting the car the starter does nothing, ive checked the clutch switch, the 3 main harness grounds, i can hear the relay click and the fuel pump turns on. Ive verified with 2 brand new starters that the starter isnt the issue.
Download a repair manual for free. Scan through it and find the appropriate diagnosis procedure. Very simple. Very detailed. It's a guessing game over the Internet. You could not have the transmission ground for all I know...
Yep went through that. Found it to be a missing ground that was the issue. But im still wondering what that plug with the wire sticking from it going into the main relay plug is for.
Well i thought it was a ground issue. Man this car is pissing me off.
Went out the day after i finally got it to turn over and i noticed when i hook the battery up the brake lights didnt come on.
Only reason i mention that is because before when the battery is hooked up the brake lights have always stayed on, figured it was the switch so i didnt want to mess with it until after i got the engine running.
Thinking to myself, hmm thats weird about the brake lights, but cool now i dont have to mess with the brake switch or anything, i start to make sure everything is working before i put gas in it and try to fire it up.
Well i get as far as turning the key to make sure the relay clicks and i hear the fuel pump prime and all that good stuff, but the relay only clicks once and i no longer hear the pump priming, just one click from the relay and i can turn the key and get the engine to turn over but the pump now never comes on.
Ive gone through checked every single damn fuse, changed out the ecu, (i have 3) also changed the main relay, (also have 3 of those), I completely went through the grounds took them out cleaned the terminals, cleaned the bolts, even tried moving the transmission ground, but still nothing.
Without going through and checking each individual wire im at a loss here. I literally got the engine to turn over one night and had the pump working as well, everything seemed to be working, and the next night it will only turn over, and like i said the brake lights turned off, also i dont know if this is related but the horn no longer works and i know for a fact it worked before i went through and pretty much checked everything to see if it worked or not.
I realize i cant expect someone to get on here and tell me exactly how to fix this, but a point in the right direction would be much appreciated.
The one click you hear is the injector relay turning on, but it sounds like the fuel pump relay is not turning on, soooo
Unplug the relay and test for the three powers
1- 12V constant, hot at all times, pin one
2- 12V switched, hot in run and start, pin five, it must be good as relay clicks once.
3- 12V switched, hot in start only, pin four.
Ground, pin two must be good as relay clicks once.
If all 3 powers are there check for ground trigger from ECU, pin eight if none use a jumper to supply a ground to pin eight, if pump turns on check continuity of the lead from the ECU to pin eight, if good...
Check for power at IGP1 and IGP2 at the ECU, the leads will be the same color as the power leads at the injectors and pin three. 94
Okay relay is working. All the others I need to wait for my next day off to check.
Another question I noticed some other wires that may be part of the problem. Can anyone identify them?
This one is 6 wires that are all cut.......
This plug never had anything plugged in, has 3 wires going into it.
In this picture im holding a green wire that looks like it was depined from the yellow plug to the left, just kinda chilling no idea what its for........

Reason: A word
So I'm using a p28 ecu with a jumper harness, my buddy has an obd0 pr4 ecu that I decided to try. Plugged it in and now all the sudden everything is working pump primes and the vehicle turns over, brake lights still don't work but ill get it running first then worry about that. Bad ecu maybe?
