Tranny Question
A few months ago I swapped out my stock d15b2 for a JDM d15b7 Sohc Vtec and while I had it out and apart from the tranny I put in a stage II clutch. Now my tranny is an 88 5 speed and I was told it had a differnt spline count from the other years. I was also told that it wouldn't bolt up to my new motor but athat was false information I guess cuz it was no problem. Now I was just wondering if I could buy an 88 crx Si tranny and drop it in? If not what would be the best route to go about putting in an si tranny? I would need new axles and knuckles right? Thanks in advance
sorry to say, no such thing as a JDM d15b7, the d15b7 is a USDM motor that came in the 92-95 civic DX. its possible that you have a d15b7 block, and a vtec head of some sort, but thats all it could be. as far as your tranny questions, an 88 CRX SI tranny will bolt right in, and you will be able to use your exsisting knuckles and axles. if you want to be able to use your exsisting clutch/flywheel setup, youll HAVE to use an 88 SI tranny. if you use an 89-91 SI tranny, youll have to get the clutch/flywheel setup for that year

If you say so man. As far as I was informed is that it is the Japanese equivelent to the d16z6 since there is no JDM z6. I got the engine from a Japanese engine importer also and on hondadseries.com they have listings of info on the JDM d15b motors. So I'm sorta confused now
. But anyway it's about the tranny. So I can just slap that B*tch in there?

there is a d15b that is a JDM sohc vtec motor, but it has no number at the end. easiest way to tell, look at the block and see whats stamped there.
Just to clarify some of the above info. The DX and Si use the same axles. The outer joint has 26 splines. The STD and HF also use the same axles. Those outer joints have a spline count of 23.
To address your other question about the 88 tranny. Braveheezy is dead on with his summation or the 88 and 89-91 tranny / clutch combos.
