Hey guys need help figuring out whats wrong with my hatch
Well to start i got a Z6. So problem is that when in traffic and driving for a wile and stop at idle the car starts to want to overheat doesn't fully shoot up on the gauge goes a little more then half and once i start moving then comes back down.
So today i decided to bleed it just incase i had air in the system and wile i was doing that for a wile maybe 20-30 min then it just starts to over heat wile bleeding it. Also fan works fine turns on when needs to but when it starts to over heat it doesn't. Any help guys ?

 

You don't need to bleed for 20 or30 minutes it should not take more than 3 to 5.

Make sure your coolant is full of proper coolant NOT plain water.

Make sure your radiator is in good condition.

Make sure all coolant hoses are firm and leak free.

Check or replace your thermostat.

 

Symptoms sound like a bad thermostat.
I would start there.

Do you lose any coolant at all?

 

I believe i don't only time was when it over heated and coolant went everywhere because i was bleeding.
Also today i jumped the fan so they will stay on 24/7 wile driving and had no overheating problem why is that? Any suggestions

 

Well the fans not turning on when the car is still
Could cause the car to over heat slightly then temp goes down as the car starts moving.
With the car stationary the fans draw air into the radiator when they turn on.
When the car drives the air pushing against your car cools the radiator. That's why it doesn't over heat while stationary or in motion.

if the fan turns on but not when it over heats then could be a bad thermostat or bad fan switch.

I would just swap the thermostat and hook up the fans how they were hooked up before and see if that solves the issue.

So im going to get a new thermostat and fan switch and see from there what happens and keep you guys updated.

So i replaced the thermostat and fan switch and bleed the system and as of now it is running good have yet to see it want to over heat

 

Good to see that.

And FYI, it CAN take 20-30 mins to bleed a Z6. I know cause I just did it, and according to the FSM, to get the fan to run twice, took that long in this coolish temp.

Be sure to do on stands, ramps or inclined drive too.

(oh it would also overflow some while warming up but not overheat, just so folks know diff)

To add to jarvis info, heater should be turned on the highest setting also.

yeah took a wile to bleed but everything came out great and its been about a 2 weeks and runs good no overheating. Now to just get a better radiator
