94 Honda accord fuel pump problem
My 1994 Honda accord the fuel pump wont kick in. Changed the relay. What happens is it wont kick in or will kick in after a minute or two or not at all. The check engine light stays on with key in on. Also the d4 light starts to blink after about 15 seconds any ideas what my problem is
Any recent work done on the car?
Any recent theft/vandalism/etc?
Anything out of the ordinary happen before the pump and light issues?
Verify battery fully charged/holding a charge.
Verify battery terminals, clean and tight.
Verify battery cables not corroded or loose.
Verify ground connections are clean and tight as well.
Check under the center of the glove box door for the two wire blue connector. Use a wire to jumper this connector and check for any stored codes via the CEL, D4, SRS, or ABS lamps blinking a code.
Verify voltage going through the main relay is battery voltage to the fuel pump.
Does the ignition switch feel strange? Have you ever had to rotate the key to not quite the II(ON) or even III(START) to keep the car running?
Verify the ignition switch is not worn, broken, or arcing. It may not be making full contact when in the II(ON) position.

When I turn on the key the check engine light does not go off and then the d-4 starts blinking. I dont think its the ignition switch, The battery has a charge. The two wires I dont understand about putting a wire in them to connect them what will that do. I just bought the car from someone who couldnt get it started. I didnt here the pump kicking in so I went home and got a relay from my other honda that worked and came back and replaced the one that was in it and after a few trys it started up after I primed it via the fuel intake. Then I drove it home. I notice the next day that it took a minute for the fuel pump to kick in. Then it took longer and now nothing. Got to be somewhere simple. I will check more monday. The d-4 blinking I think would mean something. Check the fuses etc Just a fuel pump elec issue Thank for any help
Well I got it started this 94 v-tec Battery was holding a charge but not a very good one. Might need a new battery. I dont see why it would not kick in the fuel pump anyway. I jumped it with my other honda and after charging up the battery a little more it seem to work. When driving my D-4 light blinks is my TCU going bad or is there another problem. Maybe after I buy a new battery It might fix it. Will be back Im sure as I have 2 other hondas 92 accord and 93 accord I am working on. Never had a v-tec before anything I should know about them. Thanks for al;l the replys

Use a battery from one of your cars that run and try starting the car on its own. Running the car with a dead battery is not good as it will tax the alternator too much.
If your D4 lamp is blinking there is a code in the TCU to retrieve the code...

The battery is not dead or dying. It work fine as long as you drive the car every day. Yes It is dying I guess or on the way out. I have been keeping it charged up and seems to be working fine One thing I did notice is that The owner before me had messed up the radio by having a tape eaten up and could not get it out. So part of it is stuck in the radio and the radio does not work. But anyhow after I put the code in the radio and it didnt go to the am/fm because the plastic is stuck in the radio that I could not get out the car started to do this Now because I put jumpers cables from my other car on this battery it says I need the code again but I am not going to put it in because this is when it started to have the problem I think. I am going to buy a new battery when I get the extra 100 bucks The D-4 light stopped blinking after I drove the car awhile. Thanks for everthing and We will see how it goes from here
Ok The battery has a good charge. The fuel pump still wont come on . What wires are the pos, neg and ground on the sending unit under the cover in the truck by the back seat. How can I hook up a wire to just get the pump working to move this car from the spot its in. Can I go around the main relay and install a toggle switch for the fuel pump somehow. There has got to be a way to get this pump working any thoughts
Do you have a volt meter?
Verify there is actual power going to the pump before bypassing. This would also verify if the Main relay is faulty rather than the pump just being dead/dying.

I had a 94 LX 2.2 A/T and had a similar problem. After much reading I started to throw parts at it. Changed fuel pump, didn't fix it. Changed fuel filter, didn't fix it. Changed ignition switch, didn't fix it. I finally got fed up with that and found a 94 Honda shop manual that I believe is still readily downloadable online. Used my meter and followed the flowchart. Turned out my ECU was bad. Ordered a used one for 50 bucks and it ran great then I sold it after a year. Point being, wise men will tell you, don't throw parts at it. That's no way to diagnose. Find the problem. Mad Mike is giving you all the guidance you need.
ok I checked the fuel pump Has three wires going in the top. One wire had power to it. What are the other two wires One neg and ground? Then I hooked up a wire to battery and check to see if fuel pump[ comes on. It did with the middle wire but the one that had power was the first one not the middle. Car would not start with battery hook up to fuel pump has to be something else not turning on. My main relay is good I have checked it with my other hondas, Have a 92 and a 93 accord but the ecu dont match or I would swap the parts to see if thats my problem. Just dont want to start playing find the part thats bad. Looks like I might have to Guess I will start with the ecu. What are the three wire going into the top of the fuel pump sending unit under the cover. I also see the black ground wire that goes to the frame.
Have you pulled the codes from the ECU/TCU yet?
If the CEL is staying solid you have another issue aside from the fuel pump!
On another note, get rid of that battery, it's junk!
