Default Fuel pump issue

Quick question to pick your brain guys/gals

I have an aftermarket fuel pump and when the key is turned to the start position sometimes it does not fuel advance. I would wait a little bit, try again and it would work fine. I've had to wait a while before it would even turn on sometimes. It seems to be related to the battery light. So when the key is turned and the battery light comes on, the fuel pump comes on. When the battery light does not come on the pump wont come on. I'm stumped as to an answer and am willing to try anything. My first guess would be a relay, but not sure if there is one.

Any help?
Thank you

Mine does not pump when I put it in pre-ignition either. So the motor just stumbles during ignition until fuel gets up there. I am going to change out the main relay and see what happens.

Twice, I've had a similar problem with my 93 Si. Troubleshooting per the Helm manual told me I had a bad fuel pump, but that wasn't the problem. Tested my main relay - its fine too. The first time, it started after I unplugged and replugged in the ECU. Not sure if that had anything to do with it. Was fine for a month and then it did the same thing again, but i left it alone and it started a half hour later.

If you guys come up with any more info I'd be very interested......

Wow, seems to be a continuing issue with some people. At least now I'm not alone. I did notice the voltage at the battery when it wasn't turning on was 12.53v and when it did went down to 12.36v And when it finally came on I heard the clicks inside the engine bay which was obviously the relay.. bad thing is I dont know where its at.
If you find replacing the relay works, I'll have to do the same thing.
Also which relay is the helms manual talking about?

Thanks guys

Hey I've had the same problem...changed fuel pump today..Still wants to pull the "I dont wanna start carp" but only sometimes and it comes and goes. I found that holding the key for way longer then usually while trying to start...(like 15- 20 something secs) and it will start.

Someone solve this one. It's getting popular!

Got similar problem if I turn off car for very brief period of time and come back. When I turn the ignition, my car will start and then stumble. Like ernesto said, if I hold key in for a couple seconds, a couple times it will be alright..

Common symptom of a bad main relay as I was told, so I'm going to get a new one or resolder my current relay. If that's not it I'll check the fuel pump out. I've noticed that whenever I first start my car, I'd be driving, and if I come up to a stop my car will just stall out of nowhere. After driving a bit, it stops doing this. Wonder if this has anything to do with fuel pump.
