Default 97 Honda Civic Dx upgrading help.

Okay so I have a 97 honda civic dx automatic SOHC d16a.

I'm wanting to know what I can and shouldn't do to my civic. I know as of a d series you really can't do much to it. I've always seen like y8 manifold swaps and upgrading to a vtec and what not.

What could and should I do to my d series that would make her a little beefier?
