Default High mount brake stop light ~ not working

The center high mount brake light in my '99 civic ex is not working.

I'd like to replace it with an led, but haven't been able to get the bulb out.

Mainly I'm concerned with breaking the plastic fins by trying to turn it too hard.

Suggestions are much appreciated.

I think removal is as simple as push in and turn.

The cord unplugged, but the light socket assembly won't push in and won't turn.

Should I try a wrench on it?

Don't even need to push in. Just rotate. Coupe, sedan, or hatch?

If you had to use a crescent wrench than you probably goofed it up.

The crescent wrench just gave me leverage to turn the socket with my fingers and it's fine.

The 21 watt light was burned out, so I ordered a 7 watt led to replace it.

So do you use the wrench on your brake lights and headlights?

The brake light sockets and lights came out easily.

I haven't looked at the headlights yet.

chumaniel is a spam account. Disregard it. The headlights are a simple metal clip holding the bulb in.
